Casting News - Jenna Dewan Joins 'The Resident'; Zoey Deutch and Laura Dreyfuss to Co-Star on 'The Politician'; Plus 4 More Updates!

AMC's The Walking Dead; FOX's The Resident; HBO's True Detective; NBC's Chicago P.D.; and Netflix's The Politician & Sex Education.





FOX's THE RESIDENT
  • Jenna Dewan has landed a recurring role on the drama's upcoming second season. She is the host of NBC's World of Dance and next stars in the Netflix drama Mixtape (which shot its pilot at FOX this past development season).
  • She will play Julian Lynn, a sharp and sophisticated medical device rep and former dancer. She got into her current line of work after a device helped save her life. As the season progresses, she'll become more aware of the shadier side of her business.
AMC's THE WALKING DEAD
  • Lauren Ridloff has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming ninth season. She was nominated for a Tony Award earlier this year for her performance in Children of a Lesser God.
  • She will play Connie, a seasoned survivor deft at using her senses to read people, situations and trouble. Both actor and character are deaf and use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate.
NETFLIX's THE POLITICIAN
  • Zoey Deutch, Laura Dreyfuss, Lucy Boynton and Rahne Jones have been cast as series regulars on the upcoming comedy starring Ben Platt. Deutch recently starred in the Netflix film Set It Up. Dreyfuss starred opposite Platt on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen. Boynton starred in Netflix's one-season drama Gypsy. Jones will be making her television debut with this series.
  • No details were immediately released about any of the characters they will be playing.
NETFLIX's SEX EDUCATION
  • James Purefoy has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield. He starred for two seasons in HBO's Rome, three seasons in FOX's The Following, three seasons in SundanceTV's Hap and Leonard and one season in Netflix's Altered Carbon.
  • He will play Remi, Jean's (Anderson) ex-husband and Otis' (Butterfield) father.
HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE
  • Deborah Ayorinde is set for a recurring role on the anthology series' upcoming third installment. She has previously recurred on Netflix's Luke Cage and NBC's Game of Silence.
  • She will play Becca Hayes, the estranged daughter of retired Arkansas State Police detective Wayne Haynes (Mahershala Ali).
NBC's CHICAGO P.D.
  • Anne Heche has been cast in a recurring role on the drama's upcoming sixth season. She is coming off of two one-season dramas - Syfy's Aftermath and NBC's The Brave.
  • She will play Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan, who is smart, to the point and political, but often self-serving. A cunning and formidable opponent, she always keeps her wits about her.
