Development News - July 10, 2018

Freeform's Motherland and USA's Briarpatch.

USA's BRIARPATCH
  • Rosario Dawson will play the lead role on the drama pilot written by Andy Greenwald. She has played Claire Temple on Netflix's Marvel series Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Defenders. She has also had a recurring role on The CW's Jane the Virgin.
  • She will play Allegra "Pick" Dill, a tenacious and highly-skilled investigator working in Washington, D.C. for a young, ambitious Senator. When her ten-years-younger sister, a homicide detective, is killed by a car bomb, Allegra returns to her corrupt Texas hometown. What begins as a search for the murderer becomes a fraught and dangerous excavation of the past Allegra has long sought to bury. Dawson will also serve as a producer on the pilot.
FREEFORM's MOTHERLAND
  • Taylor Hickson, Amalia Holm, Kelcey Mawema, Jessica Sutton and Demetria McKinney have been cast on the drama pilot written by Eliot Laurence.
  • Hickson (Deadpool, Aftermath) will play Raelle, a reluctant recruit with major authority issues whose mother recently died in the line of duty.
  • Holm (Playground, Vårdgården) will play Scylla, a playful yet dark and mischievous recruit who is not what she appears to be.
  • Mawema (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) will play Abigail, an unquestionably alpha, smart, driven and courageous witch who hails from the upper echelons of military witch society and is excited to be joining the ranks of the witches' army.
  • Sutton (The Kissing Booth, Ice) will play Tally, a kind, strong-willed and curious witch who enlisted despite her mother's passionate disapproval.
  • McKinney (House of Payne, Saints & Sinners) will play Anacostia, an articulate, tough, wryly humorous staff sergeant whose chief concern is keeping the young recruits alive through basic training.
