AMC Announces Premiere Date for Season 9 of 'The Walking Dead'

AMC has today announced the premiere date for the upcoming ninth season of the original drama series The Walking Dead. The news was made from the show's panel at Comic-Con.






The ninth season will begin on Sunday, October 7 at 9/8c.

In the upcoming season, the drama stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Tom Payne, Khary Payton, Katelyn Nacon, Pollyanna McIntosh, Callan McAuliffe and Avi Nash.

The ninth season is expected to be a creative reboot of the long-running drama. It has been confirmed that it will be the final seasons for leading man Andrew Lincoln and co-star Lauren Cohan. Moreover, longtime writer Angela Kang was promoted to showrunner, replacing Scott M. Gimple - who now oversees the entire Walking Dead franchises as its chief creative officer.
