Casting News - September 12, 2018

Epix's Godfather of Harlem; Hulu's The Act; and Netflix's Cursed & Dead to Me.

NETFLIX's CURSED
  • Katherine Langford will play the lead role on the upcoming drama created by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. She was the breakout star of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, where she was a series regular for two seasons. She also appeared in the film Love, Simon.
  • She will play Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful and tragic Lady of the Lake.
  • Moreover, Zetna Fuentes (How to Get Away With Murder, Jane the Virgin) has signed on to direct and executive produce the first two episodes.
HULU's THE ACT
  • Chloë Sevigny and AnnaSophia Robb will co-star on the upcoming anthology starring Patricia Arquette and Joey King. Sevigny starred for five seasons in HBO's Big Love and two seasons in FX's American Horror Story. Robb starred for two seasons in The CW's The Carrie Diaries.
  • Sevigny will play Mel, a natural leader of all the women in her small neighborhood. She's had a hard life, and she sympathizes with the troubles Dee Dee's (Arquette) been through. But when she catches a glimpse of another side of Dee Dee, she doesn't know what to think.
  • Robb will play Lacey, Mel's daughter. Like her mom, she's a popular girl, well-liked by everyone she meets. Unlike her mom, she's a bit of an idealist. She finds herself instantly taken with Gypsy (King) and Dee Dee, and soon turns up at their house wanting to help out.
NETFLIX's DEAD TO ME
  • James Marsden and Ed Asner have been cast on the upcoming comedy starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. Marsden has starred for two seasons in HBO's Westworld. It's unclear what his casting here means for his involvement in the third season of the drama. Asner starred in seven seasons of CBS' The Mary Tyler Moore Show and five seasons in its spinoff Lou Grant.
  • Marsden will play a love interest to Judy (Cardellini) who seems confident and logical, but beyond that facade is a vulnerable man with a complicated past who is drawn to Judy's big heart and free spirit.
  • Asner will play a resident at the assisted living facility where Judy works. He is quick-witted and sharper than most. He and Judy share a sweet bond and often lean on each other to get through life's twists and turns.
EPIX's GODFATHER OF HARLEM
  • Ilfenesh Hadera has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Forest Whitaker and Vincent D'Onofrio. She recently starred in ABC's one-season drama Deception. She also appears in a recurring role on Netflix's She's Gotta Have It.
  • She will play Mayme Johnson, Bumpy's (Whitaker) wife and nobody's fool. She knows the take of every numbers spot from 110th to 168th, but still makes a Sunday meal that draws a full house of friends and family every weekend. A testament to the power of the African-American mother as insulator, protector and champion. She's also a dynamo who won the most powerful black man in Harlem.
