Netflix has today announced that Henry Cavill (Justice League, Mission Impossible: Fallout) will star in the new original drama series The Witcher based on the best-selling fantasy book series by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Cavill will play Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil) developed the drama and will serve as showrunner. She will executive produce alongside Alik Sakharov, who will direct four episodes including the premiere. Furthermore, Alex Garcia Lopez and Charlotte Brandstrom will each direct two additional episodes of the 8-episode first season.
Additional executive producers include Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Kathy Lingg, Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko. Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant.
