Development News - March 27, 2019

CBS' The Emperor of Malibu & To Whom It May Concern; and HBO's Untitled Game of Thrones Prequel.

HBO's UNTITLED GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL
  • Marquis Rodriguez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan and Dixie Egerickx have joined the cast of the drama pilot starring Naomi Watts. Rodriguez stars in Netflix's upcoming limited series When They See Us from Ava DuVernay. Simm recently starred for two seasons in ABC's The Catch, one season in Netflix's Collateral and one season in Amazon's White Dragon. McCabe starred for one season in Hulu's Harlots. Heffernan stars in Netflix's upcoming drama Dracula from Steven Moffat. Egerickx appears in the upcoming films The Secret Garden and Summerland.
  • As with most of the previous casting, no details were immediately released about the characters they will be playing.
CBS' THE EMPEROR OF MALIBU
  • Max Willems will play the lead role on the comedy pilot starring Ken Jeong. He is a relative newcomer who starred in the Amazon drama pilot College.
  • He will play Auggie, an environmental lawyer and son of a Chinese tech billionaire (Jeong) who announces his engagement to an American woman - and is terrified of how his parents will react to the news.
CBS' TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
  • Adhir Kalyan has been cast on the comedy pilot starring Michael Angarano and Briga Heelan. He previously starred for five seasons in CBS' Rules of Engagement. He recently recurred on Netflix's Arrested Development.
  • He will play Tanner. He loves Kate (Heelan) and the corner pierogi shop they run together, but does hope someday she'll relent to his white picket fence aspirations. When not creating pierogi fillings like White Chocolate Chicken Parm, he spends the rest of his day watching random male grooming and lifestyle YouTube videos in his never-ending pursuit of becoming "the bon vivant of the Pittsburgh pierogi scene." Kalyan replaces Raymond Ablack, who was original cast in the role.
