Development News - March 28, 2019

ABC's Triangle; CBS' The Emperor of Malibu, Our House & Super Simple Love Story; and FOX's Deputy & Untitled Annie Weisman.

FOX's UNTITLED ANNIE WEISMAN PROJECT
  • Victoria Cartagena has been cast on the drama pilot starring Brittany Snow, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Emily Osment. She starred for one season in FOX's Gotham. She has also recurred on Hulu's The Path, Lifetime's You and NBC's Manifest.
  • She will play Amanda, a young, hip, self assured and gender-fluid District Attorney who's politically savvy and knows how to play the media. She gets her shot at the headlines when she becomes the lead prosecutor on the Bechley case.
FOX's DEPUTY
  • Mark Moses has joined the cast of the drama pilot starring Stephen Dorff. He starred for three seasons in ABC's Desperate Housewives. He has also recurred on AMC's Mad Men, Showtime's Homeland and TNT's The Last Ship.
  • He will play Jerry London, an overbearing bureaucrat and a political apex predator. He is openly contemptuous of Hollister (Dorff) and is itching to drive him off the force.
CBS' OUR HOUSE
  • Nancy Lenehan and Phil Hendrie will co-star on the comedy pilot starring Katherine Heigl and Malcolm Barrett. Lenehan starred for two seasons in TBS' People of Earth and has recurred on HBO's Veep. As a voice actor, Hendrie can be heard on Netflix's F Is For Family and Adult Swim's Rick and Morty.
  • Lenehan will play Laura, Bridget's (Heigl) loving, passive-aggressive mother who feels like she no longer has a place in her family after her daughter renovates the childhood home she grew up in and raises her kids with a radically different parental style. Once Bridget and Laura learn to communicate better and commiserate over the difficulties of raising a family, their complicated relationship improves - and Bridget realizes she's not as different from her mother as she thought.
  • Hendrie will play Rory, Bridget's old-school, sometimes problematic father who spends his time trying to appease his wife, Laura - even if that means meddling in the lives of his children. His adoration for his family is tested when he finds himself at odds with Bridget's new "hippy dippy" parenting style.
ABC's TRIANGLE
  • Lorenzo Richelmy has booked a series regular role on the drama pilot starring Mike Vogel and Matt Passmore. He previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's Marco Polo.
  • He will play Ham, one of the residents of the Triangle, a former pirate and a rogue who is skeptical of newcomers.
CBS' THE EMPEROR OF MALIBU
  • Taylor Louderman will play the female lead on the comedy pilot starring Ken Jeong and Max Willems. She received a Tony Award nomination in 2018 for her starring role in the musical Mean Girls.
  • She will play Kate, a charming, easygoing classic California blonde. She's an intellectual property lawyer who urges her fiancé, Auggie (Willems), to tell his parents about their engagement - confident that they'll eventually get over the cultural differences and embrace the relationship. But that was before she actually met his parents.
CBS' SUPER SIMPLE LOVE STORY
  • Ronny Chieng and Susan Wokoma have landed series regular roles on the comedy pilot (formerly The Us Project) starring David Walton and Elizabeth Alderfer. Chieng has been on a correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah since 2015. Wokoma stars in IFC's upcoming comedy Year of the Rabbit.
  • Chieng will play Harris, Kevin's (Walton) friend and former college roommate, an atheist without a filter who "loves to debate" and mostly ruins every social interaction by getting in his own way - and everybody else's.
  • Wokoma will play Abby, who is happy to hate her job as long as the check clears and hit on cute Rabbi Sarah without hesitation while friend Morgan (Alderfer) agonizes over job and relationship fulfillment.
