'Batwoman,' 'Katy Keene' and 'Nancy Drew' Land Series Orders at The CW

The CW has today made its first series pickups for the 2019-20 broadcast season - picking up dramas Batwoman starring Ruby Rose, Katy Keene starring Lucy Hale and Nancy Drew starring Kennedy McMann.

Batwoman - Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

The drama stars Ruby Rose, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, Elizabeth Anweis, Rachel Skarsten and Dougray Scott.

Caroline Dries wrote the pilot, which was directed by Marcos Siega. They executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns and David Nutter. Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions produce.

Katy Keene - In a timeless New York City, as enchanting as Riverdale is moody, aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene meets Josie McCoy, fresh off the bus to chase her musical dreams. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez - and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger. While their climb to the top is rife with obstacles, this found family will stop at nothing to see their names in lights. Based on the Archie Comics characters.

The drama stars Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp, Julia Chan, Camille Hyde, Lucien Laviscount, Zane Holtz and Katherine LaNasa.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi wrote the pilot, which was directed by Maggie Kiley. They executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions produce.

Nancy Drew - Set in the summer after her high school graduation, 18-year-old Nancy Drew thought she'd be leaving her hometown for college. When a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation - and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.

The drama stars Kennedy McMann, Leah Lewis, Tunji Kasim, Maddison Jaizani, Alex Saxon, Alvina August and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Noga Landau wrote the pilot, which was directed by Larry Teng. They executive produce with Melinda Hsu Taylor, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Lis Rowinski is a co-executive producer. CBS Television Studios and Fake Empire produce.

Of the remaining pilots from this development cycle at The CW, Glamorous remains in contention for a series order. Meanwhile, the Jane the Virgin anthology spinoff Jane the Novela will not be moving forward, while re-shoots have been ordered for The Lost Boys which will occur off-cycle.
