Casting News - Jake McDorman and Joe Dempsie to Star in National Geographic's 'The Right Stuff'; Plus 2 More Updates!

HBO's Lovecraft Country; National Geographic's The Right Stuff; and Netflix's Ozark.





NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC's THE RIGHT STUFF
  • Jake McDorman, Joe Dempsie, Aaron Staton, Michael Trotter, Micah Stock and James Lafferty have been cast on the upcoming drama starring Patrick J. Adams. McDorman starred in the recent Murphy Brown revival season on CBS. Dempsie starred for three seasons in HBO's Game of Thrones and two seasons in Epix's Deep State. Staton starred for seven seasons in AMC's Mad Men. Trotter has recurred on WGN America's Underground and ABC's Inhumans. Stock starred in the Netflix short series Bonding. Lafferty starred for nine seasons in The WB/The CW's One Tree Hill.
  • McDorman will play Alan Shepard, one of the best test pilots in Navy history, who is furiously competitive.
  • Dempsie will play Lt. Gordon Cooper, the youngest of the seven who was selected to everyone's surprise.
  • Staton will play Wally Schirra, a competitive pilot with a gift for pulling pranks.
  • Trotter will play Gus Grissom, a no-nonsense test pilot who eventually becomes the second man in space.
  • Stock will play Deke Slayton, a taciturn but incredibly intelligent pilot and engineer.
  • Lafferty will play Scott Carpenter, a soulful man who was dubbed "The Poet" by the other astronauts.
HBO's LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
  • Abbey Lee, Jamie Chung and Jordan Patrick Smith have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett-Bell. Lee's film credits include The Dark Tower, Neon Demon and Elizabeth Harvest. Chung starred for two seasons in FOX's The Gifted. Smith starred for two seasons in History's Vikings.
  • Lee will play Christina Braithwhite, the only daughter of the leader of a secret order calling themselves the "Sons of Adam." She's gone to great lengths to earn her father's respect, to no avail. She's going to pave her own path to power, and she's going to use Atticus (Majors) and his family to do it. Lee replaces Elizabeth Debicki who was originally cast in the role.
  • Chung will play Ji-Ah, a seemingly naive nursing student who is thrust into active service when war breaks out, and a rash of soldier disappearances suggests she is more than what she seems.
  • Smith will play William. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed, he's the perfect specimen for the Aryan race. He's Christina's henchmen, lover, bodyguard, spy and anything else she needs him to be when she needs him to be it.
NETFLIX's OZARK
  • Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Frances Dukes are set as new series regulars on the drama's upcoming third season. Moreover, Joseph Sikora and Felix Solis have booked recurring roles. Pelphrey previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's Iron Fist. Dukes is currently recurring on the final season of Netflix's Jessica Jones. Sikora currently stars in Starz's Power, which returns for its sixth and final season in August. Solis starred in the ABC limited series Ten Days in the Valley.
  • Pelphrey will play Ben Davis, Wendy's (Laura Linney) capricious younger brother, who arrives for an unannounced and inopportune visit. He quickly reminds Wendy who she used to be and who she was running from.
  • Dukes will play Maya Miller, an FBI agent and forensic accountant, who comes to the casino with one goal, to take Marty (Jason Bateman) down and do it by the book.
  • Sikora will play Frank Cosgrove Jr., the hotheaded son of Kansas City mob boss, Frank Cosgrove (John Bedford Lloyd). He immediately clashes with Ruth (Julia Garner) when forced to work together in the new casino laundering business.
  • Solis will play Omar Navarro, the ruthless leader of Mexico's second largest drug cartel. He attacks his enemies with both brutal violence and psychological warfare - as the Byrdes will personally discover.
