Casting News - Alexander Skarsgård Set as Villain in 'The Stand'; Dylan Walsh to Recur on 'Blue Bloods'; Plus 2 More Updates!

Casting News - September 13, 2019

CBS' Blue Bloods; CBS All Access' The Stand; FOX's Filthy Rich; and NBC's Untitled Ted Danson Comedy.

CBS ALL ACCESS' THE STAND
  • Alexander Skarsgård has joined the cast of the upcoming limited series starring James Marsden, Amber Heard and Whoopi Goldberg. He won an Emmy Award for the first season of HBO's Big Little Lies. He previously starred for seven seasons in HBO's True Blood and the AMC limited series The Little Drummer Girl. He recently appeared in the series premiere of Showtime's On Becoming a God in Central Florida.
  • He will play Randall Flagg, also known as "The Dark Man," whose unsettling and ever-changing presence is the embodiment of pure evil. Like Mother Abigail (Goldberg), he appears in the dreams of the plague survivors but, unlike her divine messaging, his ultimate goal is far more sinister.
CBS' BLUE BLOODS
  • Dylan Walsh has been cast in a recurring role on the drama's upcoming tenth season. He previously starred for six seasons in FX's Nip/Tuck and four seasons in CBS' Unforgettable. He recently recurred on NBC's Law & Order: SVU and ABC's Whiskey Cavalier.
  • He will play the newly-elected Mayor of New York City. A pragmatic businessman who rose up through honest ingenuity and keen instincts, he took on the office as a means to "give back" to the city where he was raised in the disappearing middle-class and from which he launched his enormously successful career. He approaches Erin (Bridget Moynihan) with an offer to back her in a run for the Manhattan District Attorney's office, confident in his appraisal of her as someone he can work with to deliver the promises he ran his campaign on. But the lines between "work with" and "work for" are clearly blurred in his conception, and Erin must weigh her ambitions against this charismatic and persuasive one-man sales force.
FOX's FILTHY RICH
  • Aaron Lazar will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Kim Cattrall. His Broadway credits include Les Misérables, A Tale of Two Cities and the Dear Evan Hansen national tour. He has also recurred on FX's The Strain and ABC's Quantico.
  • He will play Reverend Paul Luke Thomas, the beloved, popular, influential and ambitious minister at the Sunshine Network. This is the second time the role has been recast. David Denman played the role in the original pilot. He was recast with Steven Pasquele for creative reasons. And now, Pasquele has had to drop out for personal reasons.
NBC's UNTITLED TED DANSON & TINA FEY COMEDY
  • Bobby Moynihan will play a lead role on the upcoming comedy created by Tina Fey and starring Ted Danson. He previously starred for nine seasons in NBC's Saturday Night Live. His casting reunites him with Fey after he recurred on the fourth season of Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which Fey co-created.
  • He will play Jayden, the interim Director of Communications in the newly elected Mayor's (Danson) office.
