HBO Max's Made for Love and National Geographic's Genius: Aretha

  • Noma Dumezweni has joined the cast of the upcoming dramedy starring Cristin Milioti and Ray Romano. She received a Tony Award nomination for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. She also starred in the Netflix/BBC Two limited series Black Earth Rising. She next stars in HBO's upcoming limited series The Undoing.

  • Malcolm Barrett, Patrice Covington, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Kimberly Hébert Gregory and Sanai Victoria will co-star opposite Cynthia Erivo in the upcoming third installment of the anthology series. Moreover, Anthony Hemingway has signed on to direct and executive produce the premiere.

  • Covington (The Color Purple) and Jones (Oklahoma!) will play Erma and Carolyn Franklin, Aretha's sisters, who are both talented performers in their own right and sing backup for Aretha.
  • Gregory (Vice Principals) will play Ruth Bowen, a pioneer in her field, the head of a successful black-owned agency, who represents Aretha, booking her into world-class venues and getting her onto the covers of Time and Ebony magazines.
  • Victoria (The Paynes) will play a younger Aretha. Known as Little Re, she is the shy, immensely talented daughter of celebrated Detroit preacher Clarence LaVaughn Franklin, who thrusts her into the spotlight at a very young age.
