HBO Sets Premiere Date for New Drama 'The Outsider' Starring Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo

HBO has today announced the premiere date for the upcoming original drama series The Outsider starring Emmy Award winner Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple).






The 10-episode first season will debut on Sunday, January 12 at 9/8c. with two episodes airing back-to-back.

Based on the novel by Stephen King, the drama follows police detective Ralph Anderson (Mendelsohn) as he sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney (Erivo), whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable. 

The drama also stars Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vásquez, Jeremy Bobb, Marc Menchaca and Jason Bateman. 

Richard Price (The Night Of) developed the drama, with Jason Bateman directing the first two episodes. They executive produce with Mendelsohn, Andrew Bernstein, Marty Bowen, Jack Bender, Michael Costigan and Dennis Lehane. Temple Hill Entertainment, Aggregrate Films and Civic Center Media produce.
