Casting News - February 19, 2020

Amazon's Upload; The CW's Walker; HBO Max's Tokyo Vice; and Starz's Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

HBO MAX's TOKYO VICE
  • Odessa Young and Ella Rumpf will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Ansel Elgort. Young stars in CBS All Access' upcoming limited series The Stand. Rumpf stars in Netflix's upcoming German series Freud.
  • Young will play Samantha, an American expat living in late '90s Tokyo. She makes her living as an upscale club hostess in the alluring and wild district of Kabukicho, deftly navigating both salarymen, high-end customers and the Japanese Yakuza on a nightly basis. Sexy, wry and fluent in Japanese, she keeps Jake (Elgort) and everyone else continually in play.
  • Rumpf will play Polina, a new hostess at the club with Samantha. She came to Tokyo to work as a model and slowly got pulled into the underbelly of Kabukicho. She's bright, funny and gorgeous but struggles as a hostess.
STARZ's POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN
  • Patina Miller has joined the cast of the upcoming Power spinoff starring Omar Epps. She won a Tony Award for the musical Pippin and received another Tony nomination for the musical Sister Act. She also starred for six seasons in CBS' Madam Secretary.
  • She will play Raquel "Raq" Thomas. To the streets, she is cold, hard and fierce - a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man's world. She is tough, resolute, ruthless but still capable of love. Great love. The sole recipient of that affection is her son, Kanan. He is everything to her. As much as she cares for him though, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers. She is the sun, and everyone else in her universe exists in her orbit.
THE CW's WALKER
  • Keegan Allen has been cast as a series regular on the upcoming drama starring Jared Padalecki and Lindsey Morgan. He previously starred for seven seasons in Freeform's Pretty Little Liars. He has recently recurred on TNT's Major Crimes and Netflix's What/If.
  • He will play Liam Walker, Cordell Walker's (Padalecki) younger gay brother. Smart, slightly smug, but with a strong moral compass, he has been recently promoted to assistant DA. The brothers are close, but Liam gives Walker no shortage of tough love. Liam has always stayed close to home, often sacrificing his personal life in favor of his family duties. In Walker's absence, he stepped up to take Walker's kids under his wing. His close relationship with Walker's son and daughter makes Walker slightly jealous.
AMAZON's UPLOAD
  • Kevin Bigley, Allegra Edwards and Zainab Johnson are set as series regulars on the upcoming comedy starring Robbie Amell and Andy Allo. Furthermore, Elizabeth Bowen, William B. Davis and Owen Daniels have been cast in majore recurring roles.
  • Bigley (Sirens) will play Luke Crossley, a veteran of a future war with Iran. He appreciates Upload for restoring his complete body, and the many luxuries, but pushes back against all the rules, hacking freebies wherever he can.
  • Edwards (Briarpatch) will play Ingrid Kannerman, Nathan's (Amell) steady girlfriend. Proud of her family's unlimited Horizen data plan, she convinces Nathan to upload himself to Horizen's Lakeview digital afterlife on her account, where he becomes her property.
  • Johnson (American Koko) will play Aleesha Morrison Downey, the customer service "angel" at the desk next to Nora's (Allo), who has several other part-time jobs. Her Lakeview clients include Luke and David Choak, who are often troublesome.
  • Bowen (Resident Alien) will play Fran Booth, a middle school gym teacher who likes puzzles. She becomes suspicious that her cousin Nathan's death is not just a car accident and starts to investigate.
  • Davis (The X-Files) will play David Choak, a powerful dead billionaire. He has bought himself a better digital afterlife than everyone else. Cynical and smug, he feels his wealth proves that he deserves it.
  • Daniels (Space Force) will play A.I. Guy. For the convenience of the guests, the virtual hotel staff such as bellboys and gardeneres are all the same avatar, a cheerful young red-headed man. This ubiquitous piece of artificial intelligence annoys the hell out of Nathan.
