Development News - Ariela Barer Joins 'Rebel'; 'Thirtysomething' Sequel Adds Two More Original Stars; Plus 4 More Updates!

ABC's Rebel, Thirtysomething(else) & Untitled Emily Kapnek; CBS' Jury Duty; and NBC's American Auto & La Brea.





ABC's THIRTYSOMETHING(ELSE)
  • Two more original stars of ABC's thirtysomething have signed on to reprise their roles in the sequel pilot - Melanie Mayron and Polly Draper. Both actresses starred for all four seasons of the original run. Mayron won an Emmy Award for her supporting performance, while Draper received one Emmy nomination for hers.
  • Mayron plays Melissa Steadman. Draper plays Ellyn Warren.
ABC's REBEL
  • Ariela Barer has been cast as a series regular on the drama pilot starring Katey Sagal and John Corbett. She previously starred for three seasons in Hulu's Runaways. She has also recurred on Netflix's Atypical and One Day at a Time.
  • She will play Ziggie, the rebellious adopted daughter of Rebel (Sagal) and Aiden. She is going through a bad patch. She got hooked on pain medication after an injury, but has been drug-free for the last 72 days. A teenager who needs to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings on a very regular basis, she is vulnerable as hell and needs her mother - only her mother is busy with her latest cluster of tormented clients.
NBC's AMERICAN AUTO
  • Harriet Dyer has booked a series regular role on the comedy pilot written by Justin Spitzer. She previously played the lead role in NBC's one-season drama The InBetween.
  • She will play Sadie, an ambitious type-A head of communications at Payne.
NBC's LA BREA
  • Michael Raymond-James, Karina Logue and Zyra Gorecki have joined the cast of the drama pilot written by David Appelbaum. The casting reunites Raymond-James and Logue after they both appeared in FX's one-season drama Terriers. Meanwhile, the pilot will mark Gorecki's first major television role. Finally, Thor Freudenthal (Carnival Row, The Expanse) has been tapped to direct the pilot.
  • Raymond-James will play Gavin Wolcott, Claire's recently estranged husband.
  • Logue will play Marybeth Hill, a police officer with strong opinions.
  • Gorecki will play Izzy Wolcott, Claire and Gavin's daughter.
ABC NEW PILOT ORDER
  • UNTITLED EMILY KAPNEK PROJECT (Comedy, Single Camera) - Starring Trinkets alum Quintessa Swindell. Written and executive produced by Suburgatory and Splitting Up Together creator Emily Kapnek. Directed and executive produced by Dean Holland. Produced by ABC Studios and Specifica Productions. Logline: New York City teenager Lennon Cochrane's (Swindell) life is turned upside down when she stumbles on a family secret.
CBS' JURY DUTY
  • Jack Cutmore-Scott will play the lead role on the comedy pilot written by Dana Klein and Stephanie Darrow. He previously starred in FOX's one-season comedy Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life and ABC's one-season drama Deception.
  • He will play John "Hutty" Huttman, a charismatic natural leader and winner in every way, who isn't happy about being made an alternate juror, so he's going to make it fun for himself.
