Casting News - Vanessa Lengies Boards 'Turner & Hooch'; London Brown & Malcolm Mays Join 'Raising Kanan'; Plus 1 More Update!

Casting News - March 6, 2020

Disney+'s Turner & Hooch; FX on Hulu's The Old Man; and Starz's Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

DISNEY+'s TURNER & HOOCH
  • Vanessa Lengies has been cast as a series regular on the upcoming comedy starring Josh Peck. She previously recurred on FOX's Glee. She also starred for one season in ABC's Mixology and one season in FOX's Second Chance.
  • She will play Erica, the chief trainer at the US Marshal K-9 facility. When she's with a dog, her cute awkwardness disappears and she is a natural leader. She is less comfortable with people, especially cute guys like Scott Turner (Peck), who is oblivious to Erica's interest in him. She is on board to train his 90 pound slobbery dog, Hooch, as a new K-9 for the US Marshal, and it's clear she's looking forward to work with Hooch and Scott.
STARZ's POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN
  • London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Shanley Caswell, Toby Sandeman, Joey Bada$$, Lovie Simone, Quincy Brown and Annalynne McCord have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis and Omar Epps.
  • Brown (Ballers) will play Marvin, the muscle for Raq's (Miller) drug ring. He is the older brother to Raq and Lou-Lou, father to Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore) and uncle to Kanan (Curtis). The oldest of the Thomas siblings, what he lacks in smarts he makes up for in volatile aggression. A hothead who is quick to spring to a fight, he's a mainstay of the family business, and as such, freely asserts his opinions on how to run things - though his ideas are typically dismissed by his smarter, shrewder younger siblings. His quick temper and loud personality make it difficult for his daughter to connect with him, not that he would even notice her attempts.
  • Mays (Snowfall) will play Lou-Lou, Raq's confidant. He is the youngest of the Thomas siblings and uncle to Kanan and Jukebox. Unlike Raq and Marvin, he is seemingly gentle, soft spoken but also tough and fiercely loyal. He won't hesitate to pull the trigger when called upon. Often the voice of reason, Raq trusts Lou-Lou's judgment, and relies on him as her right-hand man for work and family matters. Lou-Lou has a passion for the music business, and has big dreams of a future beyond the family business.
  • Caswell (NCIS: New Orleans) will play Detective Burke, Detective Howard's (Epps) newly minted partner. A third-generation cop but first-generation female detective, she is hard working, smart and desperate to project a tough exterior - both to her partner and to the hard-knock crews she encounters on patrol - but Burke is green, and it shows.
  • Sandeman (The Royals) will play Symphony Bosket. Handsome, suave, cool, confident, intelligent and curious, he is getting his Masters in Urban Planning while moonlighting as a bartender at a popular night club. When he meets Raq, sparks fly - and despite their very different worlds, they quickly form an authentic romantic connection that will challenge them both.
  • Bada$$ (Mr. Robot) will play Unique, undeniably the biggest drug kingpin in South Jamaica, Queens. He was handed the keys to the castle by his brother, who's spending the rest of his life in prison. He is Raq's main rival in the quest for domination of the streets. Handsome, hard and shrewd, he's the man in every way. He runs the blocks, negotiating for control of the neighborhood, and when there's an obstacle, he's tough but fair. Until he isn't. If a rival crosses a line, Unique will always retaliate to protect his own.
  • Simone (Greenleaf) will play Davina Harrison. Tough, sensitive, damaged and resilient, she is Kanan's ideal girl, and he's been crushing on her since second grade. She has a tough home life, and goes out with Buck Twenty, one of Unique's crew. Her hard exterior softens quickly after she's kicked out of school for getting into a fight and Kanan shows up for her in an unexpected way.
  • Brown (Star) will play Crown, a local music producer.
  • McCord (90210) will play Toni, a chic Upper East Side publicist who prides herself on her toughness and attitude.
FX ON HULU's THE OLD MAN
  • Gbenga Akinnagbe and Bill Heck will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Jeff Bridges. Akinnagbe previously starred for two seasons in HBO's The Deuce. Heck recently recurred on Netflix's Locke & Key.
  • Akinnagbe will play Julian, a highly-trained special ops contractor sent to hunt down Dan Chase (Bridges), with whom he shares many similarities.
  • Heck will play Dan Chase thirty years prior to the events of the main story. He understands a dangerous mission against the backdrop of the Soviet-Afghan war.
