Casting News - Holly Taylor Set as Series Regular on 'Manifest'; Liv Tyler Exits '9-1-1: Lone Star'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Casting News - September 22, 2020

Disney+'s Turner & Hooch; FOX's 9-1-1: Lone Star; Hulu's Dopesick; and NBC's Chicago P.D. & Manifest.

DISNEY+'s TURNER & HOOCH
  • Anthony Ruivivar, Brandon Jay McLaren, Jeremy Maguire and Becca Tobin have joined the cast of the upcoming comedy starring Josh Peck. Ruivivar previously recurred on Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House. McLaren stars in Netflix's upcoming drama Firefly Lane opposite Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. Maguire starred for five seasons in ABC's Modern Family. Tobin previously recurred on FOX's Glee.
  • Ruivivar will play US Marshal Chief James Clark, Scott Turner's (Peck) boss. He respects Scott, but is very uncomfortable around Scott's new dog, the slobbery Hooch, who is actually quite fond of the Chief. However, when Hooch helps solve a case, Chief Clark has a change of heart and bends the rules to allow him to receive K-9 training.
  • McLaren will play Xavier Watkins, a marine-turned-US Marshal. He's cool, enigmatic and a bit quirky. As one of the most experienced deputies in the office, he has a lot to teach younger deputies like Scott Turner. Although he's more of a cat lover, he kinds a kindred spirit in Scott's sidekick, Hooch.
  • Maguire will play Matthew, Scott Turner's nephew. He's a dog lover who is thrilled to drop off the huge, slobbery Hooch with his Uncle Scott after Scott's late father leaves Hooch to him.
  • Tobin will recur as Brooke, a federal prosecutor and Scott Turner's ex-girlfriend. She comes from a wealthy family of powerful lawyers but downplays her wealth and status. She represents everything Scott thinks he wants out of life - she even likes his slobbering K-9 sidekick, even if Hooch occasionally chews on her legal briefs.
HULU's DOPESICK
  • John Hoogenakker will co-star on the upcoming limited series starring Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard and Kaitlyn Dever. He previously starred for two seasons in Amazon's Jack Ryan.
  • He will play Randy Ramseyer, an Assistant US Attorney with the District Office of Western Virginia who worked on the case against Purdue Pharma under US Attorney John Brownlee (Jake McDorman).
NBC's MANIFEST
  • Holly Taylor has been cast as a new series regular on the drama's upcoming third season. She previously starred for six seasons in FX's The Americans. She also recurred on ABC's The Good Doctor and appeared in an episode of Netflix's Dolly Parton's Heartstrings.
  • She will play Angelina, a Flight 828 passenger who has flown under Ben's (Josh Dallas) radar so far. Her emergence will play an integral part in the lives of the Stone family this season.
NBC's CHICAGO P.D.
  • Nicole Ari Parker has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming eighth season. She previously starred for five seasons in Showtime's Soul Food, one season in TNT's Murder in the First and two seasons in FOX's Empire.
  • She will play Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller. Originally from Atlanta, she is a progressive, ardent proponent of police reform. She wants to help Voight (Jason Beghe) and the Intelligence unit adapt to the new reality, but will not tolerate breaches of the new police guidelines and protocols.
FOX's 9-1-1: LONE STAR
  • Liv Tyler will not be returning as a series regular for the drama's upcoming second season. Her exit comes as a result of travel restrictions connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production is slated to begin on the new season in mid-October, with Gina Torres taking over as the female lead opposite Rob Lowe.
  • "What a thrill is was having a movie star of Liv Tyler's stature to help us launch the first season of 9-1-1: Lone Star," said Tim Minear, showrunner of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star. "We loved working with Liv and will be forever indebted to her for her haunting, powerful portrayal of Michelle Blake. While we were able to tell a complete chapter in Michelle's story, as with Connie Britton on our mothership, we also feel like there are more stories to be told. The door here will always be open for a return."
