Development News - December 9, 2020

CBS' Ghosts; Freeform's Single Drunk Female; and HBO Max's The Gordita Chronicles.

  • SINGLE DRUNK FEMALE (Comedy, Single Camera) - Starring Sofia Black-D'Elia, Ally Sheedy, Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compére, Lily Mae Harrington and Garrick Bernard. Written by Simone Finch. Directed by Leslye Headland. Executive produced by Finch, Headland, Jenni Konner and Phil Traill. Produced by 20th Television. Logline: After a spectacularly embarrassing public breakdown, 28-year-old irreverent alcoholic Samantha Fink (Black-D'Elia) is forced to move back home with her overbearing mother to sober up and avoid jail time. But when her childhood best friend reveals surprising news, Samantha realizes she can no longer qualify as a party girl - she's a walking disaster.
  • Sheedy will play Carol, Samantha's overbearing but absent parent.
  • Henderson will play Olivia, a brilliant melancholic lesbian who works as one of the greeters at AA.
  • Compére will play Brit, Samantha's smart, loyal and always well-put-together ex-BFF.
  • Harrington will play Felicia, Samantha's fun and fearless drinking companion who is always counting down the days until Samantha is out of rehab so they can meet up at their favorite local bar.
  • Bernard will play James, an isolating, high-functioning drunk who works in the tech industry.
  • THE GORDITA CHRONICLES (Comedy, Single Camera) - Written and co-executive produced by Claudia Forestieri. Executive produced by Josh Berman, Zoe Saldana, Mariel Saldana, Cisely Saldana, Chris King and Jennifer Robinson. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Osprey Productions and Cinestar Pictures. Logline: A willful, chubby, 12-year-old Dominican struggles to fit into hedonistic 1980s Miami as her family pursues the American dream.
  • Asher Grodman, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Sheila Carrasco and Román Zaragoza have joined the cast of the comedy pilot starring Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar. Grodman has guest starred on HBO's Succession and NBC's Chicago Med. Pinnock has recurred on CBS' Young Sheldon and Epix's Get Shorty. Moriarty has guest starred on Amazon's The Tick and TBS' The Last O.G. Carrasco has recurred on The CW's Jane the Virgin. Zaragoza has guest starred on ABC's Stumptown and TruTV's Those Who Can't.
  • Grodman will play Trevor, a finance bro who died in the late 1990s. His life was "sick" and his partying "high level." Limos, bottle service, Hamptons parties with B-list celebs. He's incredibly frustrated that his ghostly roommates don't get how awesome he had it. But, he died as he lived: partying at a drug-fueled rager, and now, he walks around for eternity with no pants.
  • Pinnock will play Alberta, a Prohibition era lounge singer. In her time, she dated a bootlegger and has "seen it all," and is a bit of a diva. Though tough and not one to take crap from anyone, she has a maternal streak and often acts as the protective den mother to the "family" of ghosts.
  • Moriarty will play Pete, a 1980s scout troop leader. Kind, earnest and sincere, he's the self-appointed Activities Director for the house who loves to organize games, lectures, etc. for his fellow ghosts to help stave off the boredom of eternity. He was teaching archery to his son's scout troop when one of the boys accidentally shot him through the neck with an arrow.
  • Carrasco will play Flower, a 1960s hippie who died when she wandered onto the property while attending a nearby music festival and, while under the influence, tried to befriend a bear. She has a philosophical bent; loves love and hates rude people.
  • Zaragoza will play Sasappis, who is sarcastic, droll and over it. Being trapped in a never-ending in-between world is bad enough, but for him, being trapped with these other idiot ghosts makes it even worse.
