Emma Stone to Star in Showtime's Upcoming Comedy 'The Curse' from Nathan Fielder and the Safdie Brothers

Showtime has today given a series order to the original comedy series The Curse starring Academy Award winner Emma Stone (La La Land, Maniac).

The project was originally given a pilot order at Showtime in February 2020. With Stone's casting today, the project has moved to a straight-to-series order at the premium cable outlet.

Stone will star opposite co-creators Nathan Fielder (Nathan For You) and Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie, who will also direct alongside his brother Josh Safdie.

The genre-bending comedy explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple (Stone, Fielder) as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show.

Stone, Fielder and the Safdie Brothers will all executive produce. A24, Elara Pictures and Fruit Tree will produce.

"The fierce intelligence and wit of the incomparable Emma Stone make her the perfect partner with the ingenious minds of the Safdie brothers and the subversive comedy of Nathan Fielder," said Amy Israel, Executive Vice President of Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks. "Together, they promise to deliver a groundbreaking satire that is both unexpected and deeply human. Showtime continues to shine as a beacon for visionary filmmakers who are looking to create their ambitious, singular shows."
