AppleTV+ Gives Series Order to Drama 'Lessons in Chemistry' Starring Brie Larson

AppleTV+ has today given a series order to the original drama series Lessons in Chemistry starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson (Room, Captain Marvel).

The drama is based on the upcoming debut novel by Bonnie Garmus. Set in the early 1960s, Elizabeth Zott's (Larson) dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When she finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives - and the men who are suddenly listening - a lot more than recipes... all the while craving a return to her true love: science.

Susannah Grant (Unbelievable) developed the drama. She will executive produce with Larson, Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan. Apple Studios and Aggregate Films will produce.

This is the second drama at Apple that has signed Brie Larson on to star in and executive produce. In March 2019, the streaming service ordered a drama based on the memoir by Amaryllis Fox. That drama is currently on hold due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and Larson now gearing up for production on Captain Marvel II.
