Casting News - Claire Danes to Star in 'The Essex Serpent'; 'The Last of Us' Adaptation Casts Lead Roles; Plus 1 More Update!

AppleTV+'s The Essex Serpent; HBO's The Last of Us; and Peacock's Punky Brewster.





PEACOCK's PUNKY BREWSTER
  • Jasika Nicole will appear in a recurring role on the upcoming comedy revival starring Soleil Moon Frye and Cherie Johnson. She previously starred for five seasons in FOX's Fringe and one season in ABC's The Good Doctor. She has also recurred on ABC's Scandal and WGN America's Underground.
  • She will play Lauren, a fun-loving and self-assured lawyer whose relationship with Cherie (Johnson) develops throughout the season.
APPLE TV+'s THE ESSEX SERPENT
  • Claire Danes will play the lead role in the upcoming drama based on the novel by Sarah Perry. She replaces Keira Knightley, who was originally cast in the series but has exited for personal reasons. Danes previously starred for eight seasons in Showtime's Homeland, winning two Emmy Awards for her lead performance.
  • She will play Cora, who is newly widowed. Having been released from an abusive marriage, she relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.
HBO's THE LAST OF US
  • Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will star as the leads in the upcoming drama based on the video game. Pascal currently stars in Disney+'s The Mandalorian, which has been renewed for a third season. Ramsey is best known for recurring as Lyanna Mormont on HBO's Game of Thrones.
  • Pascal will play Joel, a hardened survivor tormented by past trauma and failure. He must trek across a pandemic-ravaged America, all the while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity.
  • Ramsey will play Ellie, a 14-year-old orphan who has never known anything but a ravaged planet who struggles to balance her instinct for anger and defiance with her need for connection and belonging as well as the newfound reality that she may be the key to saving the world.
