Casting News - Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno Join 'House of the Dragon'; Plus 1 More Update!

Casting News - February 11, 2021

HBO's House of the Dragon and Showtime's Dexter.

  • Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno have joined the cast of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel. Toussaint starred in the "Red, White and Blue" episode of Amazon's Small Axe. Ifans starred for three seasons in Epix's Berlin Station. Best starred for five seasons in Showtime's Nurse Jackie. Mizuno starred in the FX on Hulu limited series Devs.
  • Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, who comes from a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As "The Sea Snake," the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, he built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.
  • Ifans will play Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King (Paddy Considine). He loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand see its, the greatest threat to the realm is the king's brother, Daemon (Matt Smith), and his position as heir to the throne.
  • Best will play Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, a dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon. "The Queen Who Never Was" was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.
  • Mizuno will play Mysaria, who came to Westeros with nothing and has been sold more times than she can recall. She could have wilted but instead she rose to become the most trusted - and most unlikely - ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen.
  • Jamie Chung and Oscar Wahlberg have booked recurring roles on the drama's upcoming revival starring Michael C. Hall. Chung recently starred in the first season of HBO's Lovecraft Country. Wahlberg has recurred on FX's Louie and AMC's NOS4A2.
  • Chung will play Molly, a famous true-crime podcaster from Los Angeles.
  • Wahlberg will play Zach, the captain of the Iron Lake High School wrestling team. He's a bit of a bully, but generally the go-to-guy to have a good time. He's the gateway to the in-crowd, which includes the daughter of the chief of police.
