Casting News - Snoop Dogg, La La Anthony and Serayah Book Recurring Roles on 'Black Mafia Family'; Plus 4 More Updates!

Casting News - March 11, 2021

Disney+'s Willow; Freeform's Cruel Summer; Showtime's Ripley & Shameless; and Starz's Black Mafia Family.

STARZ's BLACK MAFIA FAMILY
  • Snoop Dogg, La La Anthony and Serayah have booked recurring roles on the upcoming drama starring Demetrius Flenory Jr. and Da'Vinchi. Snoop Dogg has received 17 Grammy Award nominations - though has never actually won. Anthony previously starred for three seasons in Starz's Power. Serayah starred for five seasons in FOX's Empire.
  • Snoop Dogg will play Pastor Swift, the Flenory family's spiritual advisor. He's a man of The Word, with the aura of an ex-con. He believes in the power of the Lord, and does his best to keep Meech (Flenory Jr.) and Terry (Da'Vinchi) in good graces. But Pastor Swift eventually ingratiates himself into every part of the Flenory's life, including helping find a lawyer, and becoming a confidante. Meech and Terry's father (Russell Hornsby) resents all the attention the Pastor showers over the Flenory family, but no one can deny all the good the Pastor does for them.
  • Anthony will play Markaisha Taylor, the wife of a flamboyant drug dealer who Meech and Terry befriend. She sees something in Terry, a seriousness and a sense of purpose she feels she can harness to make herself rich and powerful. She develops a friendship with him and his confidant and eventually, his lover, putting everything Terry has built out on the streets at stake.
  • Serayah will play Lori Walker, Meech's girlfriend and the mother of his child, Neeka. She is a smart, driven, yet naive college athlete who once fell for Meech's bad boy charm. She is more mature and clear-eyed now. Her world centers more around her daughter, and she expects less out of Meech, which makes him want her more.
DISNEY+'s WILLOW
  • Ruby Cruz will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Warwick Davis. She previously recurred on Hulu's Castle Rock. She also appears in a recurring role on HBO's upcoming limited series Mare of Easttown.
  • She will play Kit, a princess whose twin brother was abducted. She is destined to be a leader and ultimately the queen. Cruz will replace Cailee Spaeny, who was originally cast in the role.
FREEFORM's CRUEL SUMMER
  • Barrett Carnahan, Andrea Anders, Benjamin J. Cain Jr. and Nicole Bilderback have landed recurring roles on the upcoming drama starring Olivia Holt and Chiara Aurelia. Carnahan has previously recurred on Netflix's Alexa & Katie and Cobra Kai. Anders has recently recurred on CBS' Young Sheldon and AppleTV+'s Ted Lasso. Cain Jr. has guest starred on NBC's Superstore, Spectrum's Manhunt: Deadly Games and ABC's Mixed-ish. Bilderback has guest starred on ABC's The Rookie, CBS' NCIS: New Orleans and NBC's Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
  • Carnahan will play Derek, Jeanette's (Aurelia) older brother who has a strong, playful relationship with her. He is protective of Jeanette and always has her back, even when he's away at college.
  • Anders will play Joy Wallis, a polished, wealthy and modern 90s Texan woman. She presides over the ladies who lunch with a domineering presence. She casts a shadow of fear toward anyone who stands in her way.
  • Cain Jr. will play Rod Wallis, Kate's (Holt) stepfather, a handsome and charismatic former professional football player. He is an empathetic father whose parenting skills are tested over the course of three complicated and painful years.
  • Bilderback will play Denise, Jeanette's straightforward attorney. She has faith in Jeanette but is not afraid to say the uncomfortable things that need to be said.
SHOWTIME's RIPLEY
  • Dakota Fanning has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Andrew Scott. She previously starred for two seasons in TNT's The Alienist. Last week, she booked a co-starring role on Showtime's upcoming anthology drama The First Lady starring Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson.
  • She will play Marge Sherwood, an American living in Italy who suspects darker motives underlie the affability of Tom Ripley (Scott).
SHOWTIME's SHAMELESS
  • Shar Jackson is set for a recurring role on the dramedy's upcoming eleventh and final season. She previously starred for five seasons in UPN's Moesha.
  • She will play Constance, V's (Shanola Hampton) cousin who lives in Louisville.
