AMC Announces Premiere Date for Final Season of 'The Walking Dead'

During tonight's tenth season finale, AMC announced the premiere date for the upcoming eleventh and final season of its original drama series The Walking Dead.

The 24-episode eleventh season will premiere on Sunday, August 22 at 9/8c. The final season will air in three, 8-episode blocks - one airing in 2021 and the other two in 2022. A spinoff centering on Norman Reedus' Daryl and Melissa McBride's Carol has already been ordered for 2023.

"Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we're excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever," said showrunner Angela Kang. "The stakes will be high - we'll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them."
