Casting News - May 19, 2021

Amazon's Reacher; HBO's We Own This City; HBO Max's And Just Like That, Green Lantern & The Sex Lives of College Girls; and Netflix's Wednesday.

HBO MAX's AND JUST LIKE THAT
  • Sara Ramirez has been cast as a series regular on the upcoming Sex and the City sequel starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. They previously starred for ten seasons in ABC's Grey's Anatomy and two seasons in CBS' Madam Secretary. They also won a Tony Award in 2005 for their featured role in the musical Monty Python's Spamalot.
  • They will play Che Diaz, a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) is regularly featured. They are a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.
NETFLIX's WEDNESDAY
  • Jenna Ortega will play the lead role on the upcoming drama created by Al Gough and Miles Millar. She previously starred for three seasons in Disney's Stuck in the Middle and in the second season of Netflix's You. She has also recurred on The CW's Jane the Virgin.
  • She will play Wednesday Addams, a new student at Nevermore Academy. She attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
AMAZON's REACHER
  • Bruce McGill, Maria Sten and Hugh Thompson will co-star on the upcoming drama (formerly Jack Reacher) starring Alan Ritchson. McGill previously starred for seven seasons in TNT's Rizzoli & Isles. Sten starred in DC Universe's one-season drama Swamp Thing and in the fourth season of Syfy's Channel Zero. Thompson starred in the Canadian drama Forgive Me.
  • McGill will play Mayor Teale, the distinguished mayor of Margrave, who comes from a long line of Southern gentlemen who have run Margrave for decades.
  • Sten will play Frances Neagley, an irreverent private investigator and Jack Reacher's (Ritchson) best friend who formerly worked under him as an Army MP.
  • Thompson will play Baker, the head cop of Margrave. He enjoys his position of power but hates Detective Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin).
HBO MAX's THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS
  • Sherri Shepherd, Maya Rose, Rob Huebel, Nicole Sullivan, Conor Donnally, Sierra Katow, Mekki Leeper and James Morosini have booked recurring roles on the upcoming comedy starring Pauline Chalamet. Shepherd previously starred for two seasons in NBC's Trial & Error and two seasons in Netflix's Mr. Iglesias. Rose, Donnally and Morosini have recurred on FX's American Horror Story. Huebel has recurred on Amazon's Transparent. Sullivan has recurred on ABC's Black-ish and CBS' Bob Hearts Abishola. Katow and Leeper are stand-up comedians.
  • No details were immediately announced about the characters they will be playing.
HBO's WE OWN THIS CITY
  • Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles and Jamie Hector have landed the lead roles on the upcoming limited series created by David Simon and George Pelecanos. Bernthal previously starred for two seasons in AMC's The Walking Dead and two seasons in Netflix's The Punisher. Charles starred for five seasons in CBS' The Good Wife and one season in Netflix's Away. Hector currently stars in Amazon's Bosch, which returns for its seventh and final season next month.
  • Bernthal will play Wayne Jenkins, a Sergeant in the Baltimore Police Department, perhaps the central figure in the sprawling federal corruption case that centered on the agency's Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF), a plainclothes unit that went completely rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike as decades of a relentless drug war and mass incarceration in Baltimore spun wildly out of control.
  • Charles will play Daniel Hersl, a cocky, swaggering cop known amongst Baltimore residents for his casual brutality and the subject of multiple citizen complains. He was effectively banned from the Eastern District before his move to the GTTF.
  • Hector will play Sean M. Suiter, a Baltimore City homicide detective who was caught up in the GTTF case and called to testify before a federal grand jury. Tragically, he finds he can't outrun his past.
HBO MAX's GREEN LANTERN
  • Jeremy Irvine is in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming drama starring Finn Wittrock. He previously starred in the 2018 feature film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. He also starred in USA's one-season drama Treadstone.
  • He will play Alan Scott, a secretly gay FBI agent in 1941 and the very first Green Lantern.
