Casting News - 'Shogun' Casts Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis; Lucien Laviscount Joins 'Emily in Paris'; Plus 5 More Updates!

Casting News - May 24, 2021

ABC's The Good Doctor; The CW's 4400; Epix's From; FX's Shogun; HBO Max's Love and Death; Netflix's Emily in Paris; and Paramount+'s Mayor of Kingstown.

FX's SHOGUN
  • Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will star in the upcoming limited series developed by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo. Sanada currently stars in the feature films Mortal Kombat and Army of the Dead. Jarvis has previously recurred on BBC's Peaky Blinders and HBO Max's Raised by Wolves.
  • Sanada will play Yoshii Toranaga, a living legend. He is a powerful daimyo from a feared lineage, isolated and outnumbered by his enemies in Osaka Castle when the story begins. But little does anyone realize that Toranaga is a brilliant strategist, a master of the long game, and the holder of Japan's ultimate fate.
  • Jarvis will play John Blackthorne, a restless English pilot in search of a destiny far from the world he was born into. His mission is to forge a path into the Pacific islands and disrupt Portuguese and Spanish interests in Japan. But he finds more than he bargained for when his ship washes ashore within Toranaga's territory, a deadly warlord who becomes his captor and spiritual mentor.
NETFLIX's EMILY IN PARIS
  • William Abadie has been promoted to series regular on the comedy's upcoming second season. He recurred throughout the first season - appearing in six episodes overall. Moreover, Lucien Laviscount has been cast in a recurring role. He previously starred in The CW's one-season drama Katy Keene.
  • Abadie plays Antoine Lambert, Emily's (Lily Collins) client, the roguish and charming owner of a fragrance company and recent investor in her neighbor Gabriel's (Lucas Bravo) restaurant. As the two men cope with clashing visions for the venture, Antoine will become even more entangled in Emily's world.
  • Laviscount will play Alfie. Born and raised in London, he is a sarcastic and charming cynic. He refuses to speak French, or immerse himself in French culture. He enjoys teasing Emily; they have an antagonist relationship that evolves into something more. Alfie is in Paris working for a UK bank, but unlike Emily he works to live, not lives to work. He'd prefer to be playing football or having a pint with the lads in an English-speaking pub.
THE CW's 4400
  • TL Thompson, Cory Jeacoma, Ireon Roach, Derrick A. King and Autumn Best have joined the cast of the upcoming drama reboot of the USA series. Thompson recurs on the upcoming independently-financed series The Hunted: NYCSS. Jeacoma has recurred on Starz's Power Book II: Ghost. Roach appears in the upcoming feature film Candyman directed by Nia DaCosta. King recurred on ABC's Call Your Mother. Best will make her television acting debut with the drama.
  • Thompson will play Dr. Andre, a transgender male and doctor from 1920s Harlem. He uses his skills to help treat the 4400 and while it takes him awhile to adjust to 2021, he catches on quickly that the 4400 may be perceived as a threat.
  • Jeacoma will play Logan, a loving and supportive husband and new father whose wife, Shanice (Brittany Adebumola), suddenly goes missing in 2005. Left to raise their daughter alone, he is shocked when Shanice returns after 16 years - without having aged a day.
  • Roach will play Keisha, a by-the-book parole officer who is called in as part of the government response to the 4400. Due to personal past tragedy, she is worried about the dangers these people could pose to society at large.
  • King will play Rev Johnson, raised in a powerful and affluent church family and who disappeared in the 1990s. While he is a man of true faith and compassion, he is accustomed to the power and clout afforded his position. He will emerge as a natural leader among the 4400.
  • Best will play Mildred, a smart and observant teenager from the 1970s who has no idea how she got to 2021 Detroit. But she quickly finds a couple allies among the 4400 and seems surprisingly content to have left her past life behind.
ABC's THE GOOD DOCTOR
  • Noah Galvin and Bria Samoné Henderson have been promoted to series regulars for the drama's upcoming fifth season. Both joined the drama as recurring during its fourth season - with both appearing in 14 episodes so far. Galvin previously starred for two seasons in ABC's The Real O'Neals, while Henderson also recurred on FX on Hulu's Mrs. America.
  • Galvin plays Dr. Asher Wolke and Henderson plays Dr. Jordan Allen.
EPIX's FROM
  • Catalina Sandino Moreno will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Harold Perrineau and Eion Bailey. She was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for her performance in the film Maria Full of Grace. She also starred for two seasons in Showtime's The Affair.
  • She will play Tabitha Matthews. Along with her husband Jim (Bailey), she is struggling in the aftermath of a personal tragedy and suddenly finds herself and her family trapped in the town. Together they must find a way to keep their children safe, struggling to come to terms with this new reality even as they desperately search for a way back home.
HBO MAX's LOVE AND DEATH
  • Jesse Plemons is set as a series regular on the upcoming limited series starring Elizabeth Olsen. He previously starred for four seasons in NBC's Friday Night Lights, one season in AMC's Breaking Bad and in the second season of FX's Fargo. He has recently starred in the films Game Night, The Post, The Irishman, I'm Thinking of Ending Things and Judas and the Black Messiah.
  • He will play Allan Gore. The series depicts two church-going couples, enjoying small town family life in Texas, until somebody picks up an axe.
PARAMOUNT+'S MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN
  • Hugh Dillon, Pha'rez Lass and Tobi Bamtefa have landed series regular roles on the upcoming drama starring Jeremy Renner and Dianne Wiest. Dillon co-created the drama series alongside Taylor Sheridan. It was confirmed today that he will also be appearing onscreen. Lass previously recurred on Facebook Watch's Five Points. Bamtefa is currently recurring on the third season of Starz's The Girlfriend Experience.
  • No details were immediately announced about the characters they will be playing.
