HBO Max Gives Series Order to Comedy 'Gordita Chronicles' Created by Claudia Forestieri

HBO Max has today given a series order to the original comedy series Gordita Chronicles created by Claudia Forestieri. An episode count and premiere date window were not immediately announced.

The comedy centers on Carlota "Cucu" Castelli, a willful 12-year-old Dominican immigrant with a heart of gold. She leaves her home and her parochial school in Santo Domingo to live in Miami and pursue the American Dream during the hedonistic 1980s after her father, a marketing executive with a large airline, gets transferred there. Cucu meets head-on the challenges of being an immigrant in a strange new world with humor, bravado and some really bad choices.

The cast includes Olivia Goncalves, Diana Maria Riva, Juan Javier Cardenas, Savannah Nicole Ruiz, Noah Rico and Cosette Hauer.

Forestieri wrote the pilot, which was directed by Eva Longoria. Brigitte Munoz Liebowitz will serve as showrunner for the first season. Longoria and Munoz Liebowitz will executive produce with Josh Berman, Chris King, Jennifer Robinson, Zoe Saldana, Mariel Saldana and Cisely Saldana. Forestieri will co-executive produce. Sony Pictures Television, Osprey Productions, Cinestar Pictures and UnbeliEVAble Entertainment will produce.

"HBO Max is proud to work with the powerhouse Latinx talent in front of an behind the camera for this series, which we believe will resonate with all families," said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max.
