Casting News - Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma Board 'How I Met Your Father'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Casting News - August 10, 2021

Hulu's How I Met Your Father; Netflix's Echoes; Showtime's Super Pumped; and Starz's Shining Vale.

STARZ's SHINING VALE
  • Judith Light has joined the cast of the upcoming comedy starring Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear. She has been nominated for four Emmy Awards for her work in ABC's Ugly Betty, Amazon's Transparent and FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. She is also a three-time Tony Award winner for the plays Other Desert Cities and The Assembled Parties as well as receiving the Isabelle Stevenson Award in 2019.
  • She will play Joan, Pat's (Cox) Lithium-infused mother, who has long battled mental illness, and her daughter (who she blames for her mental illness). Joan is vain and hyper-critical, taking any opportunity to recall her prized youth, or belittle Pat. Of all the horrors that Pat faces, becoming Joan is the most frightening - and most real.
HULU's HOW I MET YOUR FATHER
  • Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma will co-star on the upcoming comedy starring Hilary Duff. Raisa currently stars in Freeform's Grown-ish, which is now airing its fourth season. Ainsley has previously recurred on E!'s The Royals and BBC Two's Versailles. Tran has recurred on Pop's Hot Date and guest starred on Netflix's Space Force. Sharma starred for two seasons in CBS' God Friended Me.
  • Raisa will play Valentina, Sophie's (Duff) roommate. She's an aspiring stylist and Sophie's great friend. She's impulsive and adventurous and Sophie relies on her ability to cheer her up when she gets down. Valentina has just come back from London Fashion Week with the gorgeous, British Charlie.
  • Ainsley will play Charlie, an aspiring model who fell in love with Valentina at London Fashion Week and followed her to New York. The son of conservative aristocrats, he's a great guy but he's been living in a rich person's bubble his whole life.
  • Tran will play Ellen, Jesse's (Chris Lowell) adopted sister, who just moved to New York from a small farming town after separating from her wife. She's more comfortable on an organic lettuce field than in a Brooklyn dive bar.
  • Sharma will play Sid, Jesse's best friend and roommate. He's a new bar owner and plays the optimist to Jesse's cynicism.
SHOWTIME's SUPER PUMPED
  • Babak Tafti and Mousa Kraish have been cast on the upcoming limited series starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kyle Chandler and Kerry Bishé. Tafti has previously recurred on HBO's Succession and The CW's Legacies. Kraish starred in the second season of Starz's American Gods.
  • Tafti will play Emil MIchael, Uber's dealmaker-in-chief and right-hand man to Travis Kalanick (Gordon-Levitt).
  • Kraish will play Fawzi Kamel, the Uber driver whose interaction with Kalanick went viral.
NETFLIX's ECHOES
  • Daniel Sunjata is set as a series regular on the upcoming limited series starring Michelle Monaghan and Matt Bomer. He previously starred for seven seasons in FX's Rescue Me and three seasons in USA's Graceland. He will next star in the upcoming second season of Starz's Power Book II: Ghost.
  • Sunjata will play Charlie Davenport, Gina's (Monaghan) husband. The quintessential Los Angeles psychotherapist, he is empathetic, charismatic with an intellect to match. He finds himself caught in the undertow of Gina's deep connection to twin Leni. But he has a hidden dimension as well. One that will complicate both sisters' lives.
