Casting News - Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel to Star in 'Monarch'; 'Roswell, New Mexico' Adds Andrew Lees and Zoe Cipres

Casting News - September 7, 2021

The CW's Roswell, New Mexico and FOX's Monarch.

FOX's MONARCH
  • Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel will star in the upcoming drama created by Melissa London Hilfers. Sarandon won an Academy Award in 1995 for her performance in the film Dead Man Walking. She recently starred for two seasons in Showtime's Ray Donovan and in the FX limited series Feud: Bette and Joan. Friel previously starred for three seasons in ITV's Marcella and in the second season of Starz's The Girlfriend Experience.
  • The Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama centers on America's first family of country music: the Romans. They are headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman (Sarandon). Along with her beloved husband, Albie, Dottie has created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette "Nicky" Roman (Friel) will stop at nothing to protect her family's legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.
THE CW's ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO
  • Andrew Lees and Zoe Cipres have booked recurring roles on the drama's upcoming fourth season. Lees has previously recurred on The CW's The Originals. Cipres has guest starred on Freeform's Grown-ish.
  • Lees will play Clyde, part of a duo of thieves robbing Roswell's banks, determined to steal back what's rightfully theirs. He is a man with deeply held beliefs, fighting to keep his family on the right path - and sees a potential ally in Michael (Michael Vlamis).
  • Cipres will play Bonnie, the other half of the duo of thieves who roll into town to hit up a few of Roswell's banks. Despite her impulsive nature, she is a caring, voraciously curious woman, struggling to find her place on this Earth - something Michael can relate to.
