Paramount+ Gives Series Order to Drama 'Lioness' Starring Zoe Saldaña

Paramount+ has today given a series order to the original drama series Lioness starring Zoe Saldaña (the Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek film franchises). Production on the first season is expected to begin in June 2022.

Based on a real-life CIA program, the drama will follow a Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a terrorist to bring the organization down from within.

Saldaña will play Joe, a strong-willed, hard-nosed station chief of the CIA's Lioness program, tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives working to assassinate the world's most dangerous terrorists.

Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) created the drama, with Tom Brady (NOS4A2, Colony) set as showrunner for the first season. They executive produce with Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Geyer Kosinski and Jill Wagner. MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Blossom Films will produce.

"I am a huge fan of Taylor Sheridan's work and am honored to help him tell his next amazing story with Lioness," said Brady. "Taylor has created an epic, gripping, global spy thriller centered on a group of complex, strong women, and I can't imagine anyone better to help bring these characters to life than fellow executive producers Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña."
