Freeform Renews 'Grown-ish' for Season 5

Freeform has today renewed its original comedy series Grown-ish for a fifth season. Furthermore, Black-ish star Marcus Scribner will join his TV sister Yara Shahidi as a series regular on the upcoming season.

The comedy is currently airing its fourth season Thursdays at 10/9c. The season follows Zoey (Shahidi) and her classmates on the road to graduation.

In the fifth season, Andre Johnson Jr. aka Junior (Scribner) will embark on his own journey to being "grown."

The renewal comes as the original series Black-ish is airing its eighth and final season - with its series finale airing later this spring. Scribner has starred for all eight seasons, while Shahidi was a series regular for the first three seasons before transitioning to headline the spinoff. She has made recurring guest appearances since then.

Courtney Lilly and Zakiyyah Alexander are set as co-showrunners for the fifth season. They executive produce with Shahidi, Kenya Barris, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Craig Doyle, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins and Michael Petok. ABC Signature produces.
