Development News - Ben Rappaport and Alexandra Chando to Play Lead Roles in Untitled NBC Drama Pilot; Plus 1 More Update!

Development News - April 14, 2022

ABC's The Son in Law and NBC's Untitled Mike Daniels.

  • Meera Simhan has been cast as a series regular on the comedy pilot starring Chris Sullivan and Reema Sampat. She previously guest starred on ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, The CW's The Flash, Syfy's The Magicians, FOX's The Resident and Paramount+'s Evil.
  • She will play Khushi Mehta, Asha's (Sampat) mother, a high-strung, self-involved philanthropist who hails from extreme wealth and whose husband, Om, is the current conductor of the New York Philharmonic. She is an attractive charmer who knows absolutely every bigwig who counts on the Manhattan social scale and who frequently hosts lavish soirees at her 18,000-square-foot 5th Avenue penthouse. Even though her own parents initially disapproved of Om as being not of her class, Khushi doesn't apply her own past history to her daughter. She thoroughly disapproves of Jake (Sullivan), who is older than Asha and a plumber. To say that Khushi is controlling would be a bit of an understatement. So when she learns Asha and Jake are planning to get married, she doesn't bother to hide her feelings. She might be acting out of love for Asha, but her high-handed ways can grate on Jake's last nerves, to say the least.
  • Ben Rappaport and Alexandra Chando will play the lead roles in the drama pilot written by Mike Daniels. Rappaport previously starred for two seasons in ABC's For the People and recurred on TV Land's Younger. Chando starred for two seasons in ABC Family's The Lying Game and recurred on Amazon's Sneaky Pete.
  • Rappaport will play Adam, a former high school teacher and romantic trying to find his footing in Brooklyn after a devastating breakup.
  • Chando will play Eva, an aspiring artist and force of nature whose relationship and views on fate are put to the test when she meets Adam.
