Development News - May 5, 2022

ABC's Untitled Kay Oyegun & Will Trent; and NBC's Untitled Mike Daniels.

  • Marsha Stephanie Blake will play the lead role in the drama pilot written by Kay Oyegun. She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2019 for her supporting performance in Netflix's When They See Us. She recently starred in the AppleTV+ limited series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey
  • She will play Ellen Roman, who is smart, beautiful, a natural leader, instantly perceptive, capable of great empathy, fantastic dry sense of whip-smart humor; a deep well of contradictions stemming from a complicated childhood. She is the founder and main therapist of the "Mindful Insight Therapy Group." She has both the command and vulnerability to make her the sort of therapist who gives everything she has to her patients. But that devotion, while a strength, is also her biggest weakness.
  • Jake McLaughlin and Iantha Richardson will co-star on the drama pilot starring Ramón Rodríguez and Erika Christensen. McLaughlin previously starred for three seasons in ABC's Quantico. Richardson starred for two seasons in BET's American Soul.
  • McLaughlin will play Michael, who was raised upper-middle class in the Atlanta suburbs, served overseas in the Army until an injury sent him home, where he's now a detective with the APD. He has the vibe of a man who grew up watching tough-guy, anti-hero cops and is now excited to be one himself. Michael has a wife and kid at home, but you'd never know it by talking to him.
  • Richardson will play Faith, Will Trent's (Rodríguez) partner. She was born into a law enforcement family, is armed with wicked wit, always considered herself one of the boys, then got pregnant at 14, but now she's pulled her life together to become a detective. Her new assignment with Will is going to be her biggest challenge yet, but she's up for it, and she knows it could be a shortcut to becoming one of the top agents at the GBI.
  • Peter Gadiot and Kim Matula are set as series regulars on the drama pilot starring Ben Rappaport and Alexandra Chando. Gadiot previously starred for four seasons in USA's Queen of the South. Matula starred in FOX's one-season comedy LA to Vegas.
  • Gadiot will play Felix, an ambitious fine art and fashion photographer whose depth and talent are an irresistible draw for Eva (Chando).
  • Matula will play Monica, a Midwestern transplant who tries to make the best of a bad situation when her mistakes in love come home to roost.
