Casting News - Keean Johnson Joins Spectrum's 'Joe Pickett'; Ellen Barkin Boards Peacock's 'Poker Face'; Plus 2 More Updates!

Casting News - June 22, 2022

ABC's The Rookie: Feds; Epix's Godfather of Harlem; Peacock's Poker Face; and Spectrum's Joe Pickett.

ABC's THE ROOKIE: FEDS
  • Kevin Zegers has been cast as a series regular on the upcoming drama starring Niecy Nash-Betts. He previously starred in ABC's one-season drama Rebel. He also recurred on Bravo's Dirty John and AMC's Fear the Walking Dead.
  • He will play Brendon Acres, who is just out of Quantico. He's got a lot to prove in his first posting - not least because his background as the lead on the long-running TV series Vampire Cop means few people take him seriously. His years of method-actor training led not only to martial arts and gun skills, but also a Master's in Computer Science.
SPECTRUM's JOE PICKETT
  • Keean Johnson has joined the cast of the drama's upcoming second season as a new series regular. He previously recurred on Freeform's The Fosters, ABC/CMT's Nashville and HBO's Euphoria. He will next star in Paramount+'s upcoming limited series American Tragedies: Waco - The Trials.
  • He will play Luke Brueggeman, Joe Pickett's (Michael Dorman) new Game and Fish trainee. He is a wide-eyed, lovable screwup who often acts as Joe's comedic sidekick. Luke has a motormouth, an aversion to horses and an unconventional method for corralling drunk elk.
  • Johnson joins returning series regulars Dorman, Juliana Guill, Skywalker Hughes, Kamryn Pliva, Mustafa Sparks and Sharon Lawrence. Furthermore, Vivienne Guynn, Chad Rook and Aadila Dosani have been promoted to series regulars after recurring during the first season.
  • Recurring guest stars in the second season include Patrick Gallagher, Alex Breaux, Sean Wei Mah, John Ralston, Cheryl De Luca, Chris Gauthier, Emily Alabi, T'áncháy Redvers and Aaron Dean Eisenberg.
EPIX's GODFATHER OF HARLEM
  • Jason Alan Carvell has been tapped to replace Nigél Thatch in the role of Malcolm X in the drama's upcoming third season. Thatch played the role as a series regular in the drama's first two seasons. Carvell previously recurred on CBS' NCIS: New Orleans.
  • In the new season, Malcolm X - the radical militant preacher who left the Nation of Islam and traveled the world to press for Black political advancement - finds himself in the crosshairs of danger from former associates, in addition to the NYPD, FBI and CIA.
PEACOCK's POKER FACE
  • Ellen Barkin is the latest cast addition to the upcoming drama starring Natasha Lyonne and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. She previously starred for four seasons in TNT's Animal Kingdom. In 1998, she won an Emmy Award for her lead performance in the ABC movie Before Women Had Wings. In 2011, she won a Tony Award for her featured performance in the play The Normal Heart.
  • As with all previous casting, no details were immediately announced about the character she will be playing.
