Casting News - October 12, 2022

AppleTV+'s Physical; HBO Max's Dead Boy Detectives; and NBC's Chicago Med.

NBC's CHICAGO MED
  • Brian Tee will exit the cast of the veteran drama after starring for eight seasons as Dr. Ethan Choi. His final appearance will occur during the ninth episode titled "Could Be the Start of Something New" airing on Wednesday, December 7. However, he will return for the season's sixteenth episode offscreen to make his directorial debut.
  • Tee released the following statement on his departure: "Playing Dr. Ethan Choi on Chicago Med has been such a gift and a blessing. I am forever grateful to our fans and my colleagues both in front of and behind the camera as I embark on a new journey. I am forever indebted to Dick Wolf, NBC, and Universal Television for choosing me. What we've been planning for Dr. Choi's sendoff is fitting, and it's beautiful. I think the fans are going to absolutely love it. It's going to bring a little bit of the new Ethan and a little bit of the old. Know that episode 9 is going to be an amazing one."
HBO MAX's DEAD BOY DETECTIVES
  • Michael Beach, Joshua Colley and Lindsey Gort are set for recurring roles on the upcoming drama starring George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri and Kassius Nelson. Beach recently recurred on the Netflix limited series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Colley starred in the Hulu film Sex Appeal and in the Netflix film Senior Year. Gort currently stars in OWN's All Rise, which returns with new episodes of its third season in 2023.
  • Beach will play Tragic Mick, a melancholy walrus trapped in a human body who helps the Dead Boys out sometimes.
  • Colley will play Monty, an affable, astrology-loving teen who can see ghosts... and falls pretty hard for Edwin Payne (Rexstrew).
  • Gort will play Maxine, a quirky librarian in Port Townsend with a big, messy secret.
APPLE TV+'s PHYSICAL
  • Zooey Deschanel has joined the cast of the dramedy's upcoming third season as a new series regular. She previously starred for seven seasons in FOX's New Girl. She also starred in the films Almost Famous, Elf, 500 Days of Summer, Our Idiot Brother and Trolls.
  • She will play Kelly, a network sitcom star who decides to enter the burgeoning fitness industry.
