AMC Reverses Season 2 Order for Animated Drama 'Pantheon'

The original animated drama series Pantheon has become the latest show scrapped by AMC despite a previous order for a second season. This is the third series at the network to receive such news - following the same reversals for Moonhaven and 61st Street.

The voice cast featured Katie Chang, Paul Dano, Daniel Dae Kim, Rosemarie DeWitt, Aaron Eckhart, Chris Diamantopoulos, Raza Jaffrey, Ron Livingston and Taylor Schilling.

Craig Silverstein developed the drama based on a series of short stories by Ken Liu. He executive produces with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Ben Kalina and Juno Lee. AMC Studios and Titmouse produced.

The 8-episode first season aired exclusively on AMC+ from September 1 to October 13, 2022. Much like 61st Street, production had already been completed on the second season. The episodes may be shopped to other outlets.

In addition to the three shows being cancelled after receiving prior renewals, AMC has also revoked the series orders for new dramas Invitation to a Bonfire and Demascus. Both of those dramas were in the middle of production when those announcements were made.

These decisions have been made as part of cost-cutting measures announced by the network last month, with the company wanting to take write-downs for up to $475 million. Per an SEC filing, that overall figure includes $400 million from "strategic programming assessments" and $75 million from "organization restructuring costs."
