'Elsbeth,' 'Matlock' and 'Poppa's House' Receive Series Orders at CBS

CBS has today picked up three of its pilots to series - drama Elsbeth, a spinoff of The Good Wife; drama Matlock, a reboot of the Andy Griffith series; and comedy Poppa's House starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.






ELSBETH - A spinoff of CBS' The Good Wife (2009-2016) and Paramount+'s The Good Fight (2017-2022). After her successful career in Chicago, the astute but unconventional attorney Elsbeth Tascioni utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.

The drama stars Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson.

Robert and Michelle King wrote the pilot, which the former also directed. They executive produce with showrunner Jonathan Tolins and Liz Glotzer. CBS Studios and King Size Productions produce.


MATLOCK - After achieving success in her younger years, brilliant septuagenarian Madeline Matlock rejoins the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within. 

The drama stars Kathy Bates, Skye P. Marshall, David Del Rio, Leah Lewis and Jason Ritter.

Jennie Snyder Urman wrote the pilot, which was directed by Kat Coiro. They executive produce with Bates, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen and John Will. CBS Studios and Sutton Street Productions produce.


POPPA'S HOUSE - Legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa (Wayans) has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.

The comedy also stars Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson.

Wayans co-wrote the pilot with Kevin Hench, which was directed by Andy Ackerman. All three executive produce with Wayans Jr. CBS Studios and Two Shakes Entertainment produce.
