Starz Cancels 'Blindspotting,' 'Heels' and 'Run the World'

Starz has today decided to cancel three original scripted series after they each produced two seasons. The cancellations are for Blindspotting, Heels and Run the World. Furthermore, the premium cable outlet has announced it will no longer move forward with the scripted drama The Venery of Samantha Bird.




Blindspotting starred Jasmine Cephas Jones, Jaylen Barron, Candace Nicholas-Lippman, Benjamin Earl Turner, Atticus Woodward, Rafael Casal and Helen Hunt.

Casal co-created the dramedy with Daveed Diggs based on their 2018 film of the same name. They executive produced with Seith Mann, Emily Gerson Saines, Tim Palen, Keith Calder, Ken Lee and Jess Wu Calder. Cephas Jones served as a producer. Lionsgate Television, Dreams With Friends and Snoot Entertainment produced.

The series completed its 16-episode run across two seasons on May 26, 2023.


Heels starred Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig, Alison Luff, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Roxton Garcia, Robby Ramos, Trey Tucker and Chris Bauer. 

Michael Waldron created the drama. He executive produced with Mike O'Malley, Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Eli Jorné, Rodney Barnes, Christopher Donnelly, Patrick Walmsley, Pete Segal, Rick Yorn and Julie Yorn. Lionsgate Television, Paramount Television Studios, O'Malley Ink and LBI Entertainment produced.

The series ended its 16-episode run across two seasons on September 15, 2023.


Run the World starred Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, Corbin Reid, Tosin Morohunfola and Stephen Bishop.

Leigh Davenport created the comedy. She executive produced with Yvette Lee Bowser. Lionsgate Television and SisterLee Productions produced.

The series finished its 16-episode run after two seasons on July 14, 2023.


The Venery of Samantha Bird was a drama picked up to series by Starz in October 2022. Production on the 8-episode first season commenced this spring. However, two episodes remained to be shot when the WGA strike began in May 2023.

The cast included Katherine Langford, Finn Jones, Francesca Reale, Embeth Davidtz, Brenda Strong, Adam Faison, Shalini Bathina, Tyrone Marshall Brown, Doug Savant and Henry Czerny.

Anna Moriarty created the drama. She executive produced with Salvatore Stabile, Jessica Rhoades and Larysa Kondracki. Lionsgate Television, Paramount Television Studios and Pacesetter Productions produced.
