ABC's 'The Good Doctor' to End After 7 Seasons

ABC has today announced that the upcoming seventh season of its original drama series The Good Doctor will be its last. The final season premieres on Tuesday, February 20 at 10/9c.

The drama's final season stars Freddie Highmore, Richard Schiff, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Bria Samoné Henderson, Noah Galvin and Chuku Modu.

The seventh season will be the first without original series regular Hill Harper. He left the cast in order to focus on his campaign for the Democratic nomination for the open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.

David Shore created the drama. He executive produces with Highmore, Liz Friedman, Eric Gunn, Daniel Dae Kim, Thomas L. Moran, David Hoselton, Peter Blake, Jessica Grasl, Garrett Lerner, Mike Listo, Shawn Williamson, David Kim and Sebastian Lee. ABC Signature, Sony Pictures Television, Shore Z Productions and 3AD produce.

The Good Doctor is now the second drama ending with its upcoming season on ABC. The broadcast network previously announced that the seventh season of Station 19 airing this spring will also be its last. Moreover, the network opted not to move forward with The Good Doctor spinoff The Good Lawyer starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman, which aired as a backdoor pilot last year.

"Thanks to David Shore and Liz Friedman's creative direction and anchored by Freddie Highmore's performance, The Good Doctor has captivated audiences, who have deeply connected with Dr. Shaun Murphy and the staff at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital," said Craig Erwich, President, Disney Television Group. "As we prepare to finish this beloved story, words cannot express our gratitude for the incredible cast, crew and our partners at Sony and ABC Signature for the lasting impact they've made."

"Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life," added Highmore. "I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented - and lovely - cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible. Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver... tequila, stat!"

"The Good Doctor has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it's time to say goodbye," shared Shore, Friedman and Gunn. "We are incredibly proud of the work we've done and the message we've been privileged to be a part of. We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve. Thank you, Sony; thank you, ABC; thank you all."
