Casting News - Piper Perabo Joins 'Butterfly'; 'Hacks' Promotes Paul W. Downs and Megan Stalter; Plus 1 More Update!

Casting News - February 21, 2024

Amazon's Butterfly; Max's Hacks; and Netflix's Untitled Kate Hudson Comedy.

NETFLIX's UNTITLED KATE HUDSON COMEDY
  • Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Roberto Sanchez will co-star on the upcoming comedy starring Kate Hudson. Guido previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's Mr. Iglesias and recurred on HBO's Perry Mason. Sandeman starred for one season in Starz's Power Book III: Raising Kanan and two seasons in Paramount+'s The Game. Hanks starred for one season in FOX's Empire and recurred on Showtime's Your Honor. Mejia starred in Netflix's one-season comedy Freeridge. Sanchez recurs on Starz's BMF and AppleTV+'s upcoming comedy Palm Royale.
  • Guido will play Jackie Moreno, a popcorn vendor at the stadium where the Waves play. He can't believe it when he is suddenly thrust into the inner circle of his favorite team. Now he has the opportunity to work his way up the organization from the ground floor.
  • Sandeman will play Marcus Winfield, a generational talent who is still considered one of the best players in the league. But after two championship rings, two Olympic gold medals, and being a 12-time All-Star, he has mentally checked out from the Waves - and his lack of leadership has been affecting the team.
  • Hanks will play Travis Bugg, the Waves' point guard who moonlights as an unsuccessful rapper. He's a huge distraction on the court and an even bigger problem for Isla (Hudson) off the court.
  • Mejia will play Ana Moreno, Jackie's cousin who is also a personal injury attorney. She is smart, ambitious and always looking for an angle.
  • Sanchez will play Stephen Ramirez, the intimidating head of the board who's been with the Waves through generations of Gordons. He's old-fashioned, no-nonsense, and a constant reminder of the old guard, making Isla desperate to prove she's more than just Jack Gordon's little daughter.
MAX's HACKS
  • Paul W. Downs and Megan Stalter have been promoted to series regular status for the comedy's upcoming third season. They both heavily recurred on the comedy during its first two seasons. Furthermore, Downs co-created the series with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky.
  • Downs plays Jimmy LuSaque, Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava's (Hannah Einbinder) agent.
  • Stalter plays Kayla, the airhead daughter of Jimmy's boss, who works as his assistant.
AMAZON's BUTTERFLY
  • Piper Perabo has joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Daniel Dae Kim and Reina Hardesty. She previously starred for five seasons in USA's Covert Affairs. She also recurred on Paramount's Yellowstone and Showtime's Billions.
  • She will play Juno, a brilliant, formidable, Machiavellian woman. Once upon a time, she was an idealistic lawyer, but she has since come to the conclusion that she needs power and money to get anything done in this world. Now the CEO of an intelligence company, she is willing to do whatever needs to be done to protect her organization. She's also a mother with a complicated relationship with her adult son, who works for her company. She's not unfeeling, but she sees her softer emotions as vulnerabilities, and will often tamp them down when they conflict with her goals.
