Netflix Orders 16 Episodes of Drama 'Beauty in Black' Created by Tyler Perry

Netflix has today signed Tyler Perry to a multi-year first-look series deal - joining the streamer's first-look deal with Perry for films signed last year. As part of the deal, Netflix has ordered 16 episodes of Perry's original drama series Beauty in Black.





The drama will follow two women leading very different lives. While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other's lives.

Perry will write and direct the drama. He will also executive produce with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland. Tyler Perry Studios will produce.

So far, Perry has produced a number of feature films for Netflix - including A Jazzman's Blues, A Madea Homecoming and A Fall From Grace. Upcoming films under Perry's deal include Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington and Mea Culpa starring Kelly Rowland.

Beauty in Black will be the first television show Perry produces for Netflix. He currently produces a slate of original series for BET - including All the Queen's Men, Assisted Living, Bruh, House of Payne, The Oval, Ruthless, Sistas and Zatima.
