Casting News - Mark Duplass to Play Male Lead in 'Orphan'; David Schwimmer Joins 'Goosebumps'; Plus 3 More Updates!

Casting News - March 20, 2024

The CW's The Librarians: The Next Chapter; Disney+'s Goosebumps; Hulu's Orphan; Netflix's You; and Paramount+'s Happy Face.

HULU's ORPHAN
  • Mark Duplass will play the male lead in the upcoming limited series starring Ellen Pompeo and Imogen Faith Reid. He currently stars in AppleTV+'s The Morning Show, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
  • He will play Michael Barnett, Kristine's (Pompeo) husband and Natalia's (Reid) adoptive father. In 2019, the upbeat Midwestern dad and retail manager was charged along with Kristine for the neglect and abandonment of Natalia, whom they adopted in 2010. Already in the public eye because of Kristine's bestselling book - about raising their son Jacob, a science prodigy - Michael's world begins to crumble as he and Kristine are forced to defend the narratives they've spun about Natalia in the courts of law and public opinion.
DISNEY+'s GOOSEBUMPS
  • David Schwimmer will play the lead role in the upcoming second installment of the anthology series. He previously starred for ten seasons in NBC's Friends and in the FX limited series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
  • He will play Anthony, a former botany professor and divorced parent of teenage twins whose world takes a tumultuous turn as he juggles the responsibilities of overseeing an aging parent while having his kids for the summer.
PARAMOUNT+'s HAPPY FACE
  • Khiyla Aynne, Benjamin Mackey and David Harewood have joined the cast of the upcoming drama starring Annaleigh Ashford and Dennis Quaid. Aynne previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's The Ponysitters Club. Mackey recurred on AppleTV+'s The Morning Show and Nickelodeons' Danger Force. Harewood starred for two seasons in Showtime's Homeland and six seasons in The CW's Supergirl.
  • Aynne will play Hazel, Melissa (Ashford) and Ben's (James Wolk) 15-year-old daughter, a secure and happy girl who thinks her mother is off on a simple business trip. However, when she suspects that something dire is going on, she starts investigating - and may start to uncover the shocking circumstances of her mother's past.
  • Mackey will play Max, Melissa and Ben's 9-year-old son, a lively kid who takes his stable upbringing for granted and doesn't look too deeply into his mother's sudden absence. He takes it on faith that she's away producing a segment for The Dr. Greg Show
  • Harewood will play Dr. Greg, the handsome, beloved, long-time star of the popular daytime health and talk show, The Dr. Greg Show. When he calls Melissa, one of the show's makeup artists, in for a meeting, she's at a loss as to what he could want. She soon realizes that he's received a phone call from a shocking source - and that the call has brought the secret of her past to glaring light.
NETFLIX's YOU
  • Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews have been cast as new series regulars on the drama's upcoming fifth and final season. Camp previously starred in the Pitch Perfect film franchise. Matthews starred for two seasons in Max's The Flight Attendant.
  • Camp will play Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). Raegan is the cunning, cutthroat CFO of the Lockwood Corp who has her eyes on the throne and will crush any adversary... be them family or not. Maddie, on the other hand, presents as the unserious twin, a thrice-divorced socialite whose job is "vaguely PR." But make no mistake, a master manipulator lies underneath Maddie's frivolous facade.
  • Matthews will play Teddy Lockwood, the snarky yet loyal brother-in-law of Joe Goldberg. A confidante who was never fully accepted by the Lockwood family, he brings authenticity and empathy to a family for whom such things are a foreign concept.
THE CW's THE LIBRARIANS: THE NEXT CHAPTER
  • Callum McGowan, Olivia Morris, Bluey Robinson and Caroline Loncq will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Jessica Green and Christian Kane. McGowan previously appeared in the films The Art of Love, Raven's Hollow and The Gallery. Morris currently stars in ITV's Hotel Portofino, which has been renewed for a third season. Robinson recurred on Sky Atlantic's Britannia. Loncq recurred on BBC America's Killing Eve and Amazon's Mammals.
  • McGowan will play Vikram Chamberlin, the Librarian in 1847. A protean genius and swashbuckler, he broke the rules of The Library and accidentally transported himself to present-day Central Europe where he must lead a team of talented young people in securing magical artifacts from those who would abuse them. The question is, will Vikram keep his oath to the Library (and his new team) or will he attempt to travel back to his own time where unfinished business - and his heart - remain.
  • Morris will play Lysa Pascal, the Scientist. A brilliant polymath, she holds advanced degrees in physics, mathematics and engineering. Because of a childhood tragedy, she is obsessed with eliminating the unpredictable from life. Upon inheriting an ancient castle in Serbia, she comes into the orbit of Vikram and the Library. She joins his team to see if "magic" can be explained in scientific terms. There is also a deeper motive to her involvement... Vikram's past may be the key to unraveling her own identity.
  • Robinson will play Connor Green, the Historian. Having lost a career in academia after claiming that magic does exist in the world, he became a fringe figure, posting his findings on the internet to an audience of conspiracy freaks. In addition to an encyclopedic knowledge of history and all things supernatural, Connor is an extreme athlete and parkour expert, having trained himself to get into... and out of... the secretive corners of the paranormal world. His involvement with Vikram is his chance to prove that he was right. Unfortunately, he is now forsworn from ever telling anyone what he knows.
  • Loncq will play Elaine Astalot, the Caretaker. A resident of Camelot in the days of King Arthur, she is an immortal and caretaker of the Library. She has her hands full keeping Vikram and the rest of his team in their lanes, but never loses the keep-calm-and-carry-on attitude of a British landlady who's pretty much seen it all in her fourteen centuries on the planet.
