Netflix Picks Up Limited Series 'The Age of Innocence' and Drama 'Unaccustomed Earth'

Netflix has today given series orders to the original limited series The Age of Innocence based on the novel by Edith Wharton and the original drama series Unaccustomed Earth based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri.

Set in 19th century New York, The Age of Innocence is a passionate and heart-rending will-they/won't-they love triangle exploring themes of freedom, duty, identity and love in all its forms. This fresh take is true to Wharton's novel but will speak to a new generation as we traverse the ballrooms and bedrooms of these young people, asking the question: what is love? - and what is lust? And should we ultimately be driven by our heads or by our hearts?

Emma Frost developed the adaptation and will serve as showrunner. She will also executive produce with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Tracey Cook. Chernin Entertainment will produce.

Unaccustomed Earth is an epic, soapy, and culturally vibrant drama about a tight-knit Indian American community navigating love, desire, and belonging. Rich with nuance, passion and unforgettable characters, the 8-episode season invites you into the elite and insular Indian American community of Cambridge, Massachusetts. When a star-crossed romance between a devoted wife and her long-lost love comes to light, a scandalous affair is born and new battle lines are drawn in this intensely inter-connected immigrant community.

John Wells and Madhuri Shekar developed the drama. They will executive produce with Lahiri, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, Celia Costas and director Nisha Ganatra. Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions will produce.
