ABC has today officially picked up a reboot of the original comedy series Scrubs. Original series stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke have closed deals to return as stars and executive producers of the reboot. The comedy will likely return as part of the broadcast network's midseason schedule.
The new season will follow JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.
Additional actors from the original series are expected to return as well. New characters are expected to be introduced as well. The comedy aired its first seven seasons on NBC. Then, it moved to ABC for its eighth and ninth seasons. To date, the comedy has produced 182 episodes from October 2001 to March 2010.
Scrubs alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will return as co-showrunners. They will also executive produce with original series creator Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. 20th Television and Doozer Productions will produce.
"Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together," shared Lawrence.
