ABC Gives Series Order to Drama 'RJ Decker' Starring Scott Speedman

ABC has today given a series order to the original drama series RJ Decker starring Scott Speedman (Animal Kingdom, Grey's Anatomy). The project produced a pilot earlier this year and will premiere at midseason during the 2025-26 season.

Based on the novel "Double Whammy" by Carl Hiaasen, the drama will center on RJ Decker (Speedman), a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con, who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series will tackle cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally... or his one-way ticket back to prison.

In addition to Speedman, the series will star Kevin Rankin, Adelaide Clemens and Bevin Bru. Weruche Opia starred in the pilot but her role will be recast for the series.

Rob Doherty wrote the pilot, which was directed by Paul McGuigan. They will executive produce with Hiaasen, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Speedman will serve as a producer. 20th Television and Timberman-Beverly Productions will produce.
