Peacock has today decided to cancel its original dramedy series Poker Face after two seasons. However, series creator Rian Johnson and star/executive producer Natasha Lyonne are shopping the show to other outlets hoping for a two-season commitment.
While Poker Face has been one of the most-watched series on Peacock, it's also much more expensive to produce than its other programming. Moreover, the pitch for the potential third and fourth seasons included Emmy Award winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Dexter: Resurrection) succeeding Lyonne as Charlie Cale, the sleuth whose superpower is an innate ability to detect liars. Johnson took inspiration from The Crown and Doctor Who with the casting idea to feature a new actor to play the lead character every two years, with Lyonne expected to stay on as executive producer.
Johnson created the series. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman served as showrunners on the first season, while Tony Tost held the role for the second. Additional executive producers included Ram Bergman, Iain B. MacDonald, Nena Rodrigue, Chris Provenzano and Adam Arkin. MRC Television, T-Street and Animal Pictures produced.
