Casting News - Mandy Patinkin to Play Odin on Prime Video's 'God of War'; Rupert Friend Joins HBO's 'Youth'; Plus 5 More Updates!

Casting News - January 29, 2026

ABC's Grey's Anatomy; CBS' Elsbeth; HBO's The White Lotus & Youth; Paramount+'s Lioness; Prime Video's God of War; and Showtime's The Chi.

PRIME VIDEO's GOD OF WAR
  • Mandy Patinkin and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson are set as series regulars on the upcoming drama starring Ryan Hurst. Patinkin previously starred for eight seasons in Showtime's Homeland, receiving four Emmy Award nominations for his supporting role. Ólafsson starred for two seasons in AMC's NOS4A2 and recurred on Apple TV's Severance.
  • Patinkin will play Odin, the All-Father. He is not physically imposing or particularly god-like, but looks can be deceiving. He is the most powerful Aesir god, a patriarch who leads with an iron fist and an unrivaled seeker of knowledge. When it comes to seeking out prophecy, Odin is paranoid, manipulative and dangerous - he will do anything to try and prevent Ragnarok, the Norse end of days. He serves as a formidable antagonist to Kratos (Hurst).
  • Ólafsson will play Thor, the God of Thunder. He is a mountain of a man who has weathered many a battle in his time, but whose actions in a war fought long ago now haunt his waking hours. Once the loyal soldier of Asgard and his father's right-hand man, he is now but a shadow of his former self as he drowns himself in alcohol and tries not to think of the price he paid. Keeping his wife and children at arm's length has only deepened his isolation, but the power (and danger) of the God of Thunder is still there just beneath the surface.
HBO's YOUTH
  • Rupert Friend has been added to the cast of the upcoming comedy (previously untitled) created by and starring Sharon Horgan. He previously starred for five seasons in Showtime's Homeland, two seasons in CBS All Access' Strange Angel, in the Netflix limited series Anatomy of a Scandal, and in the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • No details were immediately announced about the character he will be playing.
PARAMOUNT+'s LIONESS
  • Elizaveta Neretin has been cast in a recurring role on the drama's upcoming third season. She previously guest starred on Freeform's Siren, TBS' The Detour, The CW's The Flash and Paramount+'s Mayor of Kingstown.
  • She will play an international operative who crosses paths with Joe (Zoe Saldaña).
ABC's GREY'S ANATOMY
  • Jen Landon and Sara Paxton have landed recurring roles on the drama's 22nd season. Landon previously starred for three seasons in Paramount Network's Yellowstone and recurred on CBS' FBI: Most Wanted. Paxton recurred on NBC's Good Girls and Peacock's Based on a True Story.
  • Landon will play Dr. Toni Wright, a plastic surgeon attending. She has a resume of accolades and innovations, which intimidates all who anticipate meeting her. Though particular and precise in an operating room, she possesses a magnetic zest for life and exudes warmth with patients and her students. Outside of work, she's a charming and disorganized mess who says yes more than no.
  • Paxton will play Leticia, who comes to Grey Sloan with her brother, who is once again hospitalized, leaving her very discouraged.
HBO's THE WHITE LOTUS
  • Helena Bonham Carter, Chris Messina and Marissa Long have joined the cast of the upcoming fourth installment of the anthology drama. Carter previously starred for two seasons in Netflix's The Crown, receiving two Emmy Award nominations for her supporting performance. Messina starred for four seasons in FOX/Hulu's The Mindy Project, in the third season of USA's The Sinner and two seasons in Peacock's Based on a True Story. Long will make her television acting debut on the series.
  • No details were immediately announced about the characters they will be playing. They will star opposite fellow series regulars Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Steve Coogan and Caleb Jonte Edwards.
CBS' ELSBETH
  • Beanie Feldstein and Griffin Dunne will appear in upcoming episodes of the drama's third season. Feldstein previously starred in the FX limited series Impeachment: American Crime Story and recurred on Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. Dunne starred for two seasons in NBC's This Is Us and recurred on Prime Video's Goliath.
  • Feldstein will play Rachel, who attends and plans all of her friends' milestone celebrations: baby showers, bachelorette parties, weddings, gender reveals, you name it. But when it's finally time to celebrate her special day, her bestie isn't there for her. The next event in her calendar might just be a funeral.
  • Dunne will play Elliott, a world-famous novelist with a massive ego and a thin skin. When a childhood acquaintance and book critic points out the flaws in Elliott's latest opus, the plot turns deadly.
SHOWTIME's THE CHI
  • Hannaha Hall and Jason Weaver have been promoted to series regulars on the drama's upcoming eighth and final season. Hall has appeared as a recurring guest star since the series premiere - appearing in 62 episodes through Season 7. Weaver joined the drama as a recurring guest star in Season 4 and has appeared in 41 episodes to date.
  • Hall plays Tiffany "Tiff" Bryant, a strong Black woman who balances motherhood, career ambitions and independence with authenticity and urgency while navigating love, loss and resilience. She is determined to achieve the trifecta - success, love and family.
  • Weaver will play Rashaad "Shaad" Marshall, who is unbothered, unapologetic and uncensored. Loyalty is what matters most to him and no matter the circumstance he has the spirit to survive. He's one you can never count out.
