"The Rookie: North" Starring Jay Ellis Ordered to Series at ABC

ABC has today given a series order to the original drama series The Rookie: North starring Jay Ellis. The projected produced a pilot this spring. It has now been picked up for the broadcast network's upcoming 2026-27 schedule and will likely debut at midseason.

Alex Holland (Ellis) believed his midlife wasn't worthy of a crisis. But after a violent home invasion ignites a dormant purpose, Alex battles a lifetime of failed commitments by joining the Pierce County Police Department as a rookie. Policing from the urban coast to the rural forest where backup isn't just five minutes away, Alex must prove to his skeptical training officer, his fellow rookies and himself, that he's finally found something worthy of the fight.

In addition to Ellis, the drama stars Chris Sullivan, Karen Fukuhara, Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson.

Alexi Hawley wrote and directed the pilot for the spinoff of ABC's The Rookie. He executive produces with Nathan Fillion, Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman. Ellis serves as a producer. 20th Television, Lionsgate Television, and Perfectman Pictures produce.

This marks the second spinoff in The Rookie franchise on ABC. The first - The Rookie: Feds starring Niecy Nash - lasted only one season between September 2022 and May 2023.
