The edge drama will center on a team at a rural West Texas medical center - the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.
Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and current showrunner Meg Marinis co-created the latest spinoff. This marks the first episode written by Rhimes in the Grey's Anatomy universe since Season 11's "How to Save a Life" in 2015 where Derek (Patrick Dempsey) was killed. Rhimes and Marinis will executive produce the spinoff alongside Ellen Pompeo and Betsy Beers. 20th Television and Shondaland will produce.
This will serve as the fourth series set in the Grey's Anatomy universe. The original series debuted in March 2005 and has been renewed for its 23rd season airing this fall. Two prior spinoffs have had respectable runs of their own: Private Practice for six seasons and Station 19 for seven seasons. The previous spinoffs centered on characters introduced on the original series. It's unclear if anyone from the current cast will transition to the new setting.
