HBO has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original drama series Lanterns starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
The eight-episode first season will launch on Sunday, August 16 at 9/8c.
The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
In addition to Chandler and Pierre, the cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King co-created the drama based on the DC Comics characters. All three executive produce with James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and director James Hawes. Mundy serves as showrunner on the first season. Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios produce.
