NBC has today given series orders to four projects - dramas Line of Fire starring Peter Krause and The Rockford Files starring David Boreanaz as well as comedies Newlyweds starring Téa Leoni & Tim Daly and Sunset P.I. starring Jake Johnson. All four series produced pilots this spring.
"Our creative teams, led by Lisa Katz at NBC and Erin Underhill at Universal Television, delivered an exceptional pilot slate, developing eight standout projects that reflect our ambition," said Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Peacock Scripted and Television Studios. "While we often hear the phrase embarrassment of riches, it truly applies in this case. This process allowed us to take big swings, and we landed on shows that we think can truly break through."
In Line of Fire, a family of law enforcement agents bridges personal differences and crosses professional boundaries as they tackle cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service and Department of Justice. After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice... even if it means betraying their sworn code.
In addition to Krause, the drama stars Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O'Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett.
Josh Safran wrote the pilot, which was directed by Rebecca Thomas. They executive produce with Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector. Universal Television produces.
The Rockford Files is a contemporary update on the classic series of the same name. Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn't commit, James Rockford (Boreanaz) returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn't take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.
In addition to Boreanaz, the drama stars Michaela McManus, Felix Solis and Jacki Weaver.
Mike Daniels wrote the pilot, which was directed by Greg Mottola. They executive produce with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Universal Television and Timberman/Beverly Productions produce.
Newlyweds is a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman (Leoni) and a buttoned-up professor (Daly) who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.
Daly and Leoni are husband and wife in real life after previously starring together for six seasons on CBS' Madam Secretary. The pilot also featured Jamie Lee Curtis as a guest star.
Gail Lerner wrote the pilot, which was directed by Pamela Fryman. They executive produce with Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Scott Schwartz. Universal Television, Lionsgate Television, and The Tannenbaum Company produce.
Sunset P.I. continues the proud tradition of Los Angeles private eyes that began with Philip Marlowe and will end with this show.
In addition to Johnson, the comedy stars Jane Levy, Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby, and Keith David.
Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici wrote the pilot, which was directed by Akiva Schaffer. All three executive produce. Universal Television produces.
